Watched the game on TV. I was in College then. My aunt had a Color TV and that was great in those days to see a game in color.

LSU cost us one and Texas took the other. He had Texas down 14-0 and choked. And he should have never lost to LSU with the talent he had on the field. LSU came in and played hard and rammed the football down the field.

I disagree with the LSU comment because LSU had a lot of talent as well that was rather bruised and banged up at the end of the season and had healed up for the Cotton Bowl.

I did have the pleasure of watching that 1969 game on Classics a few weeks ago. That was a total choke job by the pigs.

Little known motivational fact:

At every practice for the Cotton Bowl, the LSU scrubs (now days “scout team”) wore red jerseys with a white “21”.

During that track season, some of the track guys wore the jerseys during practice – a pile of mixed, used practice jerseys was available for track people to wear. Some of the football players complained to Mac, he put his foot down, and word came from on high that only track/football players could wear the jerseys. The football players who ran track wouldn’t wear the jerseys because they represented Arkansas’s 21 game winning streak! So the jerseys sat in a pile for the rest of the year before being thrown out.

I was at the game, and also one of guys who now wishes he had kept that red “21” jersey.

The Cotton Bowl has some amazing history. Now that it is played in Jerry's world, it will have increased exposure. The BCS-era hasn't been friendly to it.

The Cotton Bowl got shafted in favor of the Fiesta Bowl. The Cotton was one of the Big 4 bowls and with the collapse of the Southwest Conference, it went down. Hopefully it is starting its ascent back to its historical level.

that's the game that made me s fan...
I had just come over to Louisiana from Cuba.
..and it was not Labruzzo, it was Grezaffi.
...a couple of years later...Cassanova.

Was at that game. Hog fans rode us Tigers hard before the game. When LSU won, they left the hotel immediately

First bowl game I saw live, even though I was eleven at the time. I remember La bruzzo scoring both TD s I believe. Something did happen with injuries, to Screen or Stokely. I remember Billy Masters having a good game also. I was young and a long time ago, but still have my program framed on the wall.

I was 15. The game was not in color because the color cameras were shipped up north to cover the Green Bay vs Dallas play off game. We had just got a color Zenith 25 inch t.v. Boy, was I disappointed. Just a great game though. I recall the story that the Arkansas fans were calling us L.S. Who. First time I recall hearing that term.

Be careful what you ask for. With Jerry's shiny new stadium, the Cotton Bowl could potentially bump out the Sugar Bowl in the BCS bowl group in a few years when the BCS contracts are up for renewal.

Yes. Joe followed the left side of the line, repeatedly down the field. I can't remember the names, I want to guess McCormick at LT dominating the DT from Ark who was an AA.

it has remained one of the signature wins of the Mac/LSU era in my mind and heart ever since. An incredible effort by a clearly out-manned LSU team. They showed so much heart - and Cholly Mac showed Frank Broyles how to prepare a team and coach for victory.

It was beyond question, one of the biggest wins in LSU footbal history...

I was at that game. I was 20 years old. When we arrived in Dallas we picked up a newspaper and they were questioning why LSU was even invited. I mean as far as the media and Arkansas fans were concerned it was a slam dunk victory for Arkansas. We got to the stadium and it was a sea of red cheering woo pig during the whole pregame warmups. I said to myself this is gonna be a long day. Then Joe Labruzzo(RB) and Dave McCormick(LT) proceeded to dominate the hogs. LSU kept pounding the hogs with the running game. When the game was over I actually consoled some old Arky fan who looked like he was ready to leap over the railing.

All things considered it was the greatest LSU bowl game I have ever attended.

This may get whacked but here's a link to the whole story of the game. Scroll to page 52.

Man, I remember it like it was yesterday. My cousin in Walnut Ridge is still upset over how obnoxious I was after the Tigers spanked the Piggies.

After the game when Mac and Broyles shook hands Broyles said, "You just cost us a national championship."

Mac replied, "I knew what the stakes were."

My high school football coach was the anchor of the Arkansas defense that year.

LSU was a surprise invite to this bowl. I was in Tennessee when the bowl pairings were announced - Tennessee fans were expecting this bid, and when the Tigers got it, the Tennessee papers were livid. One columnist predicted Ark would easily win by 30 points or more. Tigers didn't get no respect from Arkansas or from their own conference.

My uncle, David McCormick, was the tackle that Labruzzo ran behind on four consecutive plays TWICE for the two Tiger scores. He was named the Lineman of the game and parlayed the game into a postseason all-star game and fairly high draft pick by the 49ers...played for the Saints in their first season before a knee injury ended his career. He was 6'6" and over 250, a behemoth for those days. He died of a heart attack in the mid-80s at 41. Labruzzo and Pat Screen had tragic deaths as well.
Before he got sick, Coach Mac gave my aunt a painting of Labruzzo running behind Uncle David with Pat Screen in the background. Coach Mac told her that the 66 Cotton Bowl was his finest win.
The Cotton Bowl has a special place in my heart and Uncle David is one of the reasons that I have been a Tiger since I was born.....in 1966!

Wow, great story. Thanks for sharing this very personal connection to a win most of us Tigers cherish.
