No BS....He was interviewed on the radio last night. There is no link or audio available(already checked).
David Filo is the Co-Founder of Yahoo! and is from the Lake Charles area. He graduated from Tulane and keeps a home in New Orleans.
His net worth is over a billion dollars.

That would be GOLDEN. And my favorite part is he has to be under 50. Like mid 40s.

Not having debt, a new CBA and a better deal with the state will bring the potential owners out of the wood works. It's ludicrous that so many people seem to have concluded that Gary Chouest was the only person not just in Louisiana, but on the planet, willing and able to own the Hornets in New Orleans.

Renaming it that would just fit the city perfectly!

David Filo is what we call "best case scenario."
I really hope this is true.

Well, I believe the issue is finding a potential owner who's local, has enough liquidity and net worth, and would keep the team in New Orleans. There are plenty of potential suitors that would buy the team and move them to a new location.

Re-name the team the New Orleans Yahoos. I like it.

And there is only one that would keep them here? That's what the press would have you believe. I'm not buying it.

The interview was on Sirius Satellite Radio on the Westwood One(Sporting News Channel). I don't want to let anyone down that wants Yahoo! affiliated with the team, but I do remember him saying that if he did buy the team, he would not involve Yahoo! do to legal purposes. He said, "this would be a completely seperate venture that would not involve any affiliation or financial support from Yahoo!". -David Filo
I say, who cares as long as he buy's the team. Besides, if he's smart enough to co-found a top fortune 500 company, he can successfully run an NBA franchise.

Why did he have such a big drop in net worth (2.9 B in 2006) over the past few years?

Most billionaires lost money in the last couple of years

It was a rough few years, but he actually raised in net worth from 1.19 in 2009 to 1.4 this year.

Gotta remember, he's in the internet biz. Yahoo was the first big search engine/news service type...thing, and then Google showed up. And now there's Bing and hundreds more smaller sites.

Yes, I hear everyone about his type of business. However, a billionaire is a billionaire. And, I don't think he would say that he was that interested in the idea if he didn't have the serious financial where-with-all to actually afford the team. This is great, because, Filo can actually afford the team on his own without a team of investors. Not saying that he won't bring others in, but from the way he sounded in the interview, he sounds like he want's to do this personally.

If he buys the team, I'll make Yahoo! my home page.
