What exactly makes you believe a career position coach is better than the majority of experienced SEC OCs?

You kept saying les would hire him as a puppet oc and I said we were making an outside hire. So we were both half right.

but how does that help developing QB's

Our OC has to be our QB coach unless Gonz leaves or resigns

He was involved in gameplanning while at SDSU. He wasnt the play caller but was involved. I know cause i was there. I cant speak for him while at the U or for the Saints. He's a vocal guy who knows how to create an advantage. Plus, he works with Sean Payton everyday. That means everything in this business. He's not a gimmick clown like Mullin and Malzahn (high school coach) type coaches.

He would come in run a NFL type offense based on advantages, something LSU hasnt had in long time. Especially, with the talent he would inherit.

I dont think anyone is disagreeing with you about CJ maybe being an up and coming offensive mind...he obviously has a very good track record and pedigree

But, fact is, he's never been an OC and LSU is NOT in the situation to give someone a shot to cut their teeth as an OC.

If we did hire him, Billy G would be expendable. We'd have an OC/WR coach who can recruit. But we would still need to go get a QB coach who is content to not call plays or coordinate the offense, unless we make Ensminger the QB coach and go after another TE coach who would be mostly just a recruiter.

not like Billy G has made any positive contribution since he's been here

I can't tell if that's sarcasm, but I don't think it is and I will agree with that. Although, it does seem like our WRs know where to line up more now than in the past, so I guess that's a plus.

Well, they need a oline and TE coach. Gonzo and stud can hit road.

Curtis Johnson is my dark-horse candidate. He can recruit and coach w/ the best. All of the Saints WR's are top flight. He was the recruiter from hell in head to head battles with the U. Plus he has worked w/ SP for a few years now and he has NFL connections.

I like other candidates for other reasons too I just believe he is due a promotion.

We better grab him before he heads back to the U.

As OC? I'd be ok with that.

I was only a wr coach on the high school level before i got a OC jig. We finished 2nd in the state in passing offense the last couple years. So don't write someone off just because they aren't a qb or don't coach qbs. Everyone has to start somewhere. Mike Leach wasn't a qb and everyone wants him. Johnson could be good. I think Monken would be a great fit. There is always a o line coach to help with run game philosophy. Biggest problem for LSU is what do they want to be, they have to find an identity and be really great at a few things instead of being ok/good at a bunch of things.

Johnson is not leaving the NFL for a college job, imo.
