it wasnt a budget issue, it was a revenue issue
Lucas reasoned he could sell more cute eewok merchandise to small kids than he could menacing wookie merchandise

remember the scene where Luke and R2D2 are flying away from Dantooine and Obi Wan says "There goes our last hope", and Yoda replies "No, there is another."
Isnt this a plot hole since Obi Wan was there when both were born but all of a sudden he has no knowledge that Luke has a twin sister?

Obi Wan had Alzheimer's, duh.

Yes because when George Lucas wrote Star Wars he had no intention of making Luke and Leia brother and sister. Nor did he plan to make Vader their father. He changed up the "big story" after Star Wars was made. This explains how Obi Wan tries to explain "he DID murder your father.....from a certain point of view"..........my arse.

Try to imagine how badass Return of the Jedi would have been if they would have stuck with the dark undertones of Empire Strikes Back. God I hate the ewoks. I love Star Wars, but that ruins the RotJ.

Seems like a big miscalculation to me. I would have had every Wookie, I don't think I bought a single Ewok.

quote:Luke spent far more time in his X-wing with R2 than the movies portray. After a while of reading the translation on his display he just learned what R2 was saying. R2 also uses a "tone of voice" so to speak. So, even though you don't directly understand him; you are able to determine yes or no.
How the hell can people understand R2D2? I guess after a while you would get used to all those damn boops and beeps, but Luke and the others seem to know what he is saying.

quote:No, Obi Wan doesn't broach the subject to keep the memory buried from Vader. Vader also doesn't sense Leia because she hasn't started Jedi training and is not "broadcasting" so to speak. Leia will later become a very powerful Knight.

Kind of like Jar Jar Binks. I would take a million Ewoks over a millisecond of JJB. nothing like trying to turn Star Wars into Cool Runnings.

Oh and Jacen in Betrayal could smoke Luke FWIW. He could "flow walk" (ala travel through time) and force crush others' minds. If not for Ben stabbing him in the back, Jacen would have killed Luke in the new Legacy of the Force Series.
Die Luke Die!!!!!

quote:If you truly understand Luke's character in the books he sandbags a ton. In the same book Luke walks in to Jacen's quarters and completely pins him with the Force. Jacen even believes Luke has come to kill him. Don't forget that Jacen was defeated by his twin sister.

Flow walking isn't technically time travel. It is time viewing.

This is false. The true effects of flow walking were never truly specified in the books.

Stand back for uber nerd...
Dantooine was the name of the fake Rebel base Leia gave to Tarkin/Vader before they Death Starred her home planet of Alderaan.

Darth Vader actually built C-Threepio but he never recognized him at all?
Rewatch Empire. During the scene when they are about to lower Han into the Carbonite Chamber. Chewbacca, who has Threepio strapped to his back, fights the Storm Troopers and tosses a few of them off the platform.
Boba Fett draws his weapon to blast him and presumably Threepio, who again, is strapped to Chewbacca's back -- however, Vader stops Fett from firing. Why?
He's evil right? He don't give an F about a Chewbacca.
What if Vader stopped Boba Fett from firing to protect Threepio, because he recognized him and deep down it reminded him of his innocent childhood.
Could Lucas be that smart?
Maybe not. But maybe....
Uber nerd status retained?!?

Alright, you guys seem to know your Star Wars book knowledge. If I wanted to start reading some of the books, where would be a good place to start? Sci/fi is my favorite movie and book genre so any and all help would be appreciated.
Also, I would prefer them to be decently intelligent reads. I'd like to avoid anything kid oriented.

"Shadows of the Empire" by Steve Perry (not the Journey guy)
It takes place between Empire and Jedi, so there is familiartiy with the characters -- as well as a few new interesting characters. It also does a good job of explaining how they devise the plan to rescue Han from Jabba and it also gives a more detailed background in the struggles Vader has with the dark side. Good, fast, entertaining read.
After that you can move to some of the Timothy Zahn books. Those are pretty good as well.
