For those that believe this...should Wisconsin be eligible to play for a National Championship? Michigan State and Ohio State?

Nearly 30% of the Big 10 can call themselves "conference champs" and even if you call Wisconsin the champs, they declare a champion in such a way that gives them the best chance to play in the title game (i.e. highest BCS rating).

Meanwhile, if Auburn loses to SC (after beating them once), they will have the best conference record and yet you think they should be ineligible to play for the National Championship. Did I get this right? And Notre Dame doesn't have to do shite?

I don't wanna hear it LSU fans.

You can't bitch about us claiming these things in 2007 if this is the case.

But you can claim that LSU was better than Georgia. Which they were.

I had no problem with UGA playing for the NC if they were the best team. Unfortunately for UGA, LSU had a better record, tougher schedule, better wins, better losses, and better MOV. Maybe next time Georgia.

About what? Georgia had no argument over LSU. Throw the SEC Championship out the door... LSU>UGA in 2007 in almost any category.

They were looking better at the end of the season, maybe b/c of LSU's injuries. Still, I was glad UT won the east and not them.

UGA definitely wasn't looking like the better team when they got their arse beat by Tennessee.

Multiple teams had better records and tougher schedules than Georgia that year. Georgia wasn't in the top two as of BCS selection Sunday. They did not qualify for the national title game.

If you qualify for the national title game, you deserve a shot. If you don't, you didn't do well enough.

Sorry, Georgia fans. You just don't want to understand.

Or lost to a team without a winning record (6-6 South Carolina).

I really can't see any logical argument to put Georgia in over LSU. They fact they didn't win their division is irrelevant.

The people who believe you should have to win your conference keep ignoring a simple fact--your conference season isn't your whole season. Usually it is about 2/3 of your season. There is no logical reason to count these eight games over here more than these four others over here simply because 10 or so teams decide to band together and play each other every year.

It takes more than eight or nine conference games to determine #1 and #2.

It's just a flat-out ignorant argument that exists because people listen to ESPN too much.

There are solid arguments on both sides of this discussion. The system is what is imperfect. The thing I keep coming back to is this. I don't feel you can be named the best team in the country if you are unable to be the best team in your conference. Forget scenarios within the confines of the current system. If you can't finish 1st out of 12 teams, how can you finished 1st out of 120?

Oklahoma was the best team in the Big 12 in 2003. They were 12-1 & 8-1; nobody else had a record that good.

Georgia was not the best team in the SEC in 2007. That's why their argument is dumb.

You're referring to eight or nine games. It's a 12-game season.

"Best team" and "champion" are not synonyms. The BCS takes the two best teams and crowns a champion from that game. The fact that the SEC wants to crown its champion after a game on the first Saturday of December has no extra bearing on that. It counts just as much and just as little as all other games.

Auburn is the best team in the SEC regardless of what happens Saturday.

And who is the best team in the Big 10?

If Newton was suddenly declared ineligible for the 2010 season I would have to disagree.

You shouldn't HAVE to. But it should be taken into account if you're trying to sort out several teams with a legitimate case for two spots.

What if a team finishes 11-1 but loses its division on a tiebreaker, and all six AQ conference champs have at least two losses? What do you do? What do you do?

Again, people can bitch and moan about the conference/division title shite, but fact is that even conference schedules aren't balanced.

LSU played AT Auburn this year. Unlike the NFL and NBA, you don't get an equal number of games against an opponent both at home and on the road. It's the luck of the draw for that year.

If LSU had played Auburn at home, it may have been a completely different game. Same goes for South Carolina, Arkansas and UGA.

That is why requiring a conference title or divisional title is bogus.

Teams should be judged on their season as a whole. Auburn played 7 out of 8 SEC East teams that are bowl eligible and it will be 8 out of 9 after the SEC title game.

Again, the UGA stance is pretty pathetic since LSU beat or matched them in every metric.
