Has there been a bigger fall from grace than the USC program?

It almost seems like the 2003-2005 era where USC was an elite program didn't even happen by looking at where they are now. They went from being arguably the best program in the country to being nobody.

Getting blown out by Oregon State, losing to ND...they're just a bad football team now.

Lane Kiffin will run that place into the ground, and it puts a HUGE smile on my face.

Having a fall like this isn't that uncommon.

True, Texas isn't going to a bowl game & Miami just fired their coach.

I know...Miami, FSU, etc.

Not exactly a strange occurrence. Programs can't be great forever.

Sure but USC pretty much recruits itself. Southern California, plenty of talent in state.

Basically the only thing you have to do is keep decent coaches there and recruit really well at the QB position and everything should fall into place. There is no excuse for USC having anything less than a 9 win season in any year barring major injuries IMOO

Sure, in theory USC should never be bad, but having a bunch of recruits that bust can set a program way back. Same thing happened at FSU and Miami. You have a couple recruiting classes bust and things can head south quickly, even with huge natural advantages

No place recruits itself.

Clearly USC has advantages and history, so there is no reason for them to be bad for an extended period in theory. The sanctions they are under will hurt them for a bit andI'm not sold on Kiffen, but we shall see.

Nope. It sucks that SC is only great program to have a couple downs years after years of tremendous success. I wish SC could be more like Texas, or Florida, or Miami, or Nebraska, etc who managed to stay at the top of the college football world for their entire existence.

Those 7 (02'-08') years were a fluke.

Good choice. BUT What Michigan has gone through is unreal. You are to young to understand, But Michigan WAS the shite in college football for three decades until CARR fell off and didn't see how the future would be.

Thats the problem with YOUNG people like you. They won it in 1997. But At the same time they were a top ten team every year from 1970 until three yaers ago. Except for 1984 with Bosco at BYU beating then in a bowl. They were 6-6 that year.

The one thing that seems different than most major falls is that quarterback is not the problem. in most of the cases, teams have huge busts at QB and fall way off. SC hasn't really had this problem with recruiting dominance in Orange County. The problem is linebacker and secondary, which is unbelievable given what those units were like just 2 years ago
