Nothing against McNeese in particular

I just really don't think 1A teams should be playing 1AA teams. And, no, I don't think everyone of our opponents needs to be top 20 BCS powerhouses. I'm all for a varied schedule. I just think the NCAA, and its division 1A has plenty enough teams that its members should have no trouble limiting themselves to playing teams within the same league.

We are doing it with the in-state programs to help tehm financially and trying to keep it in state instead of bringing in midnotrthwest southerneast Illinois and pay them $600k, we would rather play in-state schools rotating yearly and keep the cash IN-STATE!

This is an never ending argument.

I understand that theory and rationale. My point still stands, though.

have you looked at future schedules on lsusports.net? they show us playing an out of state 1-AA team 4 years in a row from 2013-2016

I see nothing wrong with it, need a couple of cupcake games to help rest key players banged up etc. And keeping the cash in state is great, esp in these economic times.

Understood. I just wish the NCAA would have more clearly defined parameters. I honestly don't mean this to knock McNeese AT ALL.

I agree to a certain point. I would much rather see LSU play a D1 school and kill them then a D2. However other then LaTech(Second highest ranked La school), ULL, ULM, Tulane(Lowest ranked) there aren't many options. I like giving in-state schools some money to lose. I don't mind helping a smaller school out, but it doesn't really make me mad that we play them. Hell I'd be for playing NSU(Nicholls) if they wanted.

Playing a McNeese St. in the middle of the SEC schedule is a way for LSU to get paid for an otherwise open date.

i'm glad that we are playing them now and not in the early 90's.

Seriously, don't you think we need a game like this every year in the middle of an SEC schedule to heal up, get style points, and basically get 2 weeks to prepare for AUburn.
They know what they are doing!

I agree with YA to a point. LSU should NOT be playing 1-AA schools...period. BUT if they do, I would much rather them keep it in state and play McNeese than play App State. LSU could be playing ULL this weekend and have the same effect.

I can agree that if we're dead set on scheduling 1AA teams, it just as soon be someone in state, such as McNeese. My problem is with the notion that we should be dead set on playing 1AA.
There's more than enough 1A cupcakes out there.

We McNeese fans of course love the idea, but I can understand your point of view. But in reality, SEC teams need a game like this. Too much competition. Ohio State's cupcake schedule is completely unfair compared to any sec school. This sort of helps the situation but still, Ohio State's schedule is RIDICULOUS. And there really isn't a difference between some 1A teams and some 1AA teams. McNeese has beaten both of the UL's

I've long been a proponent of the NCAA doing more to regulate OOC scheduling. I think the 1A should only play other 1As stricture is a good start.

This game is a win/win for both schools. LSU is paying McNeese 400K. McNeese sold over 6K in tickets paying LSU back 240K just in ticket sales. LSU gets another sold out home game and a good break from the SEC. With the weather looking perfect for Saturday I cannot wait. Going to be a fun time and then LSU will be moving on to Auburn.

It's really just a numbers thing. There is not enough FBS teams to go around for everybody to have schedules with more home games than away games which is what most of the big FBS schools want for the money they bring in for home games. Thus the FBS schools need to schedule the FCS schools.
