Not sure what fad means. Low carb. Low fat. Low calorie, combo? It's not like there are alot of choices. Pick one, be consistent. Recognize the ebb and flow of it all and have the determination to do it over the long haul. That's what Myth and Hulk and others here have done and I truly admire them for it. I have succeeded and failed and at the moment am somewhere in between.

Birthday cake etc tripped me up.
But I did save money by getting a free psychoanalysis.

Just pay Lester no mind if you don't want to read to what he has to say.

Fad means you lose an insane amount of weight very quickly....the negative is you gain it back just as fast.
Exercise can help stabilize but according to this thread exercise is frowned upon tho I think that is why you see Hulk keep steady. Despite some binge days, he has increased his metabolism enough to sustain.
You'll hear the argument that it is not a fad; rather a lifestyle change. While ill admit no diet is fool proof, I think the sample size from this thread proves that Atkins' long term sustainability is in question.
Example: "oh I'm fat, I need to lose a bunch of weight. Ill try Atkins."
....6 months later....
"Ok, I've lost 50lbs, I'm going back to the way I used to eat"
.....1 month later
"Holy crap, I've gained 15lbs!!!!! Better go back to Atkins to lose some weight quickly again!"
:cycle repeats:
That's a fad. The draw is you lose weight very quickly, & the game plan to do it is very relatable.
To put it in perspective someone is using it in a weight loss challenge. Where most people would exercise hardcore and eat lean, your go to move is a fad diet. That really says it all.

For people with weight issues, it has to be a lifestyle change. You can't go on South Beach and drop 40, then go back to the same lifestyle you had before. Most bad eaters' maintenance mode is back to before.

I think it's also because I don't float in and out of a heavy ketosis; I get 65-85g carbs/day, usually. Sometimes I eat sweet taters and stuff too. In all honesty I think the truth lies in a little bit of both of what you say and what Myth says... Everyone just has to find what works for them. That's kind of why you won't see me arguing in workout threads or diet threads nearly as much unless I'm specifically asked about my opinion. .. What works for me may not work for others. You, Lester, have done it your way, which is commendable. As has Myth, which is also obviously commendable. All of my personal beliefs as to what people should or should not be eating aside, the most important part is getting it off and keeping it off.
I know I want to lose another 40 pounds or so, but I'm actually quite content where I'm at, so even though it's going to be a slow process, I'm not killing myself over my diet and my weight. I track my food, and I keep nothing but healthy foods at my house and as a result I eat right the majority of the time and I work out pretty often. The problem I'm dealing with most right now is going out and the temptations associated with going out... and I've kind of got the same problem as CAD now.. lady friend is trying to fatten me up

Low - 160.5
Re-fattening Peak - 206
Contest Starting Weight {office scale} - 200.2
Current Weight {office scale} - 190.4
Current Competition Loss - 9.8
Day 24 of 90
Yesterday's Calorie Count - 1400
Nice dip down this morning. It will be interesting to see if that number holds tomorrow.
At the end of the day, regaining has NOTHING to do with the diet. A person either changes their bad habits or they don't. Simple as that.
I haven't changed enough. I've had 4 or 5 full sugar soft drinks in 3 years which is a massive change but I still eat entirely too much when I cheat. Atkins got the weight off. Its up to me to change my ways to keep it off.

11 more weeks to the Boston Marathon. From here out almost every weekend ill have a new long run distance. This upcoming weekend will be 16 miles. I need to reevaluate my diet from a need to lose weight to giving my body what it needs to recover while not splurging. This is difficult to do after the long runs. I think I need to go from 1,600 calories a day to 1,900 a day. What do y'all think?

cm, I think it would depend on the type of cals added, but as I readily admit, I have very little knowledge on marathon training/diet. Good luck in Boston.

I think you should load up on healthy carbs. Not overload, but load. Eat what you normally would, but also eat and extra 100g or so of carbs in the form of sweet potatoes, steel cut oats, wild rice and other slow-burning and natural sources of carbohydrates. In a long race like that, they should have stands along the way that provide fruit and the like for quick burst of carbs, but some slow-burn carbs would help you sustain. In a race that long, you should burn all of that off, and then some.

Looks like a good weight loss week as long as the pattern doesn't hold. Even with no cheats the pattern tends to give me my lowest weight Sunday then small gains for a few days.

I'm not at my goal yet, and don't really want to reach it anymore. I still want to lose about 10lbs of fat, but started my workout routine to go along with the cardio I've been doing. Looking to gain now, just not fat.

ok guys, im in
165/165/155
I'm 5'7" with an athletic build , but I'd like to bring the waist down from 33 to 30/31.
Starting to buy clothes with smaller waists so that I'm forced to keep everything off. Work out every day and I play basketball about 4 hours a day on weekdays, but I've just eaten whatever I wanted without gaining/losing weight. Going to watch what I eat to see if i can lose 5-10 lbs and those waist sizes
