2 Days In NOLA on a Modest Budget . . .

Where would you eat that would get the most bang for your buck? I'm talking about meals in the $8-$15 range per person. Starting with breakfast-lunch-dinner on a Saturday and breakfast and lunch on a Sunday.
My wife and I are planning a weekend trip there in early November with another couple. Might spend more on the Saturday night meal, but finances are pretty tight. I've got my own places I like, but thought I'd ask the culinary experts here how to really get a taste of New Orleans this way.
And, by the way, it is the other couple's first time ever in New Orleans. That is a big reason why we are doing it.

I recommend in no particular order :
1-Felipe taquria: uptown location better, but the one Decatur opens till late
2- Juan flying burrito : Midcity location is cleaner than the one on magazine
3- port of call : definitely best burger in town
4- Domilise's: best po-boy in town but way uptown
5- Lebanon cafe : on Carrolton best middle eastern food IMO
6- Nirvana: on magazine good Indian food , sometimes they have buffets
7- the joint BBQ : in the bywater , best BBQ in new Orleans
8- coops on decatur , famous for their gumbo and jambalaya

If they've never had one, maybe a Muff at Central Mkt?
Port O' Call was also on my list for a burger
Oysters at Felix's
Seafood platter at Deanie's

Mandina's can be a good option for lunch or dinner, depending on what you order. Basic New Orleans-style Italian and seafood options. Since you're probably going to want an order of turtle soup, it may push you above the $15 limit though.
There's also Liuzza's (not the one by the Fairgrounds, the one on Bienville) for lunch or dinner. As long as you don't go overboard with extra stuff (like stuffed artichokes, oysters, fried green tomatoes, etc) you can eat on your budget.
Both places are cash only (although Mandina's may finally have started accepting plastic by November).
If you've got a car and are driving around, you could also hit up one of the Vietnamese places on the West Bank for a meal. Tan Dihn on Lafayette is good (and easy to get to from the East Bank), but there are several other good options as well without having to drive out to New Orleans East.
For breakfast, there's always Cafe du Monde if you're not looking for an entire meal, and Camellia Grill works if you're looking for more traditional breakfast type foods.

There is a little place in my (and my wife's) heart for this place. The Rabbit and Sausage Jambalaya Supreme is wonderful.

Best high end dinner food with value is by far Boucherie. Not even close.

Tartine is a real treat.

a delicious piece of quiche
They have the best quiche I have ever eaten. Also, try the eggs baked in brioche next time you go.

That is why we are here. Tartine is a great place for breakfast or lunch. All fresh local organic prouce and people who care about what they serve. Same with Boucherie.

You could also get a solid lunch at Butcher

Where/what is Butcher? Name is so generic I don't even know how to look that one up.

The other suggestions I like though. I would add in Stanley! and agree with most of the other answers in this thread.

I like everything about Parkway except their roast beef po boy doesn't have enough flavor to it. It is kind of bland, to be honest.

I would pick up a po-boy from zara's and spend a few hours in Audubon park, take the trolley.
