We get it. I was hearing your argument when I was a freshman. Yes, it's stupid, but it's a ton of drunk 17-20 year olds. They're not trying to listen.

That was already the case.
So who cares if the students meekly let it pass, or continue the chant on their own
It isn't like it was an organized strategy against the band...it just happened and the only goal was that it was fun.

The powers that be proved that they would rather have control over the audio atmosphere than follow tradition when they decided that Tiger Rag should go away. Tiger Rag being the musical piece that most of the bands tradition was built on.
With that kind of track record, it is hard to place the blame solely on the behavior of students.

I don't understand, So they take away that song so the student sec. won't say "you suck" but they play the song where they cay "suck that tiger dick"
