Yes back in the day when we had Shaq, Stanley Roberts and Chris Jackson (AKA some muslim name name moahdhafoahsf;ahf) Pre season #1, however if I remember we didn't even get past the first round of March Madness that year....I am still convinced Dale Brown had black male pictures of everyone on the LSU board and State Senate.

Not that it really matters, but I believe that they were preseason #2 or thereabouts during the year when they had Shaq, Stanley Roberts and CJ in the starting lineup.

But then again, it's just filler between football and baseball, so I'm not sure that anyone paid attention.

The basketball team sure didn't seem to...

Yea, aside from having two of the top five players of all time LSU is not much of a BBall school but brighter days are ahead.

How about 1935... when we were the national champions?

Actually, yes, they have. But it was a looooooooooooooooooooooong friggin' time ago before the NCAA existed, and even before Bob Pettit played at LSU. Hell, it was even before Pearl Harbor was bombed. But for the life of me I can't remember whether it was 1930 or 1940.

Either way, football is a sport and basketball is a game.

IIRC, we were #1 going into the 1990 season- and lost the opener to Southern Miss.
Right out the gate. So much for preseason rankings.

We were ranked # 2 in all the polls going into the final game of the 1981 season.
We were ranked preseason # 1 and #1 for a very short time in 1991.
