This is true especially when the starting field position average is almost already in field goal range

chicken, I'm a firm believer that the reason they call the game so conservatively is because:
1. 2008.
2. JJ needs confidence building in his passing game, b/c it's so obvious the coaches don't TRUST him at all to throw the ball deep. And to watch him through the progressions...there were no progressions. they called on JJ to run the ball pretty aggressively tonight, it's obvious they got on to him to just run....as awkward as it looks.
Frankly, neither one of our QB's are great, and it's obvious by the playcalling.

quote:JJ is a junior who is being treated like a freshman. It leads to boring football for the fans (who pay the bills), frustrated star atheletes on offense, and low output on offense that may not cut it against top competition.
What if, in the vast hierarchy of priorities, it is more important to develop your starting QB?
You have first and goal at the 10 yard line, and you run Ridley three straight times, and settle for a FG. I am sure that did wonders for his development...

We are doing ok for now and if you are happy with the path we are on thats great for you, but when it comes to the big games we will have to win talent alone wont work. Its going to take coaching and a good passing qb to get us threw those kinda games. JJ just doesnt look or act like hes playing like a starter that has started most of the games last year and this one. I guess what iam trying to say is the fan and coaches will put lee in a game and will be judged by that one game ..... frustating

First and goal at their 10...we run three Ridley three times and settle for another FG. No throws to the endzone. Why? Does this really help Jefferson's development?
I believe on one of these runs JJ checked into it? could be wrong but I think he did

That is the perfect time to try, when you have nothing to lose. Trying for the first time when the game is on the line is asinine. How much longer are we going to develop our Junior QB's slot route and scrambling abilities?

If you check out other posts I have posted on here ..I have allways said that Miles plays not to lose and is afraid of the passing game unlike other coaches that say the running game makes the passing game work or vice versa. We have three qb or 4 counting shep and you cant tell me one of them are not better than JJ. It seems to me that miles has told jj its HIS team and he needs to get the players playing well.
I feel sorry for the good players that could be all-american on other teams but because they play for miles will not get the regonition they deserve. Toliver with a good qb would probably be one of those. Even some of our running backs would be if the competion didnt know we were going to run off tackle or the end sweep every play. Fans would stay at the game untill it was over if they had a chance to see some excitment instaed of lets go all they are going to do s run out the clock and its half time. While defence wins games it the offence that sells tickects and we dont have the offence.when we get ahead why not let Lee pass and get some kind of reps playing with the offence? Open it up and lets see what happens.I bet more fans would stay at the game

The transformation of Miles to Bo Schem is almost complete. When your offensive philosophy is centered around not throwing interceptions, passes across the middle cease, and punts/field goals almost become a good series. JJ was better last night, but the overall improvement on offense has to continue. Its a damn shame because the defense is ungodly. They play clean, but damn they hurt people.

What scares JJ more - the actual drops/INTs or the reaction from Fans (and media)?
Did they play it safe because even if the drops wouldn't bother him - the aftermath of it - repercussions from the already intolerant Fans/Media would totally screw up his mind ?

IMO the playcalling was very bland, I think that Crowton was hired for his "RAZZLE DAZZLE" offense, but he seems to be calling the most vanilla plays in the SEC without any attempt to stretch the field more than once a game. Our offense is more of a hardnose running team that has been outgained offensively in two of the first 3 games, and this is a direct result of stellar defensive play and a short field. But I guess each team plays to its strengths and ours is its defense. Hopefully offense can get enough first downs to give them a break between series.

I agree JJ's accuracy was better last night, which is go to see. I still worry about his slow decision making though, he rarely throws on rhythm ( 1 to 2 seconds slow every time) and he is still telegraphing his passes or checking down to the hot receiver way more than he should. I'm just tired of waiting for the kid to progress. I'm happy with the win, but beating Florida and Alabama will be impossible with thee dismal type of performances.
