Matt Ryan vs Chad Henne

Ryan was a turnover machine in a weak conference

Henne was Mr. un-clutch and a champion of the meltdown

both had great rushing games in their rookie years (and as turner wilted, so did ryan in 2009)

seriously though, i didn't realize henne had almost 3,000 yards passing and almost a 1:1 TD/INT ratio until this morning. that may be the most amazing rookie statline of any rookie ever. we're talking about Chad Henne here

Henne doesn't get much respect, but he's gonna be a solid NFL QB

I'm not that shocked by Henne. He has almost every major passing record at Michigan (which is partly attributed to being a 4 year starter I think), but he has always been a good borderline great QBs. I can't remember that far back, but I don't remember looking at a Michigan loss and thinking "wow, Henne sure fricked them there".

Henne was a solid 4 year college starter. Not spectacular, but solid. I don't see how it's that shocking

Tressel has ALL of Michigan's number, I wouldn't put that all on Henne at all.

4 years experience, career passing leader, great size, seems very intelligent....agreed not really shocking.

i can sum up henne's career at UM

does he have a guy he can just chunk it fricking DEEP to and let him do all the work? then he'll be ok

he had edwards as a freshman who he literally played jump ball with, and then super mario

when super mario got hurt, henne was pretty bad

Epic failure on your part. Last season was Henne's second in the league, thus he wasn't a rookie.

More Shocking Rookie Season (QB)
Matt Ryan vs Chad Henne

I think Matt Ryan's was more impressive, just because in his first year in the league, he started all 16 games and was the QB of a playoff team. That was obviously a running team, but he was solid for a rookie QB.

Henne got to sit for a year before starting, and was also on a running team (missed playoffs).

IMO Ryan will have a better career than Henne, but screw him because the Saints play him twice a year

eta: Ryan's TD/INT was 16/11 and 22/14 in '08 and '09, respectively. Damn solid for his first 2 years in the NFL. Henne's ratio was 12/14, in his first year being the starter.

Ryan did do worse in '09 and he did his rookie season, but he had the foot injury and was still comfortably ahead of the 1:1 ratio.

There's a statistical model called the Lewin Forecast that takes number of starts, career completion percentage, and change in completion percentage over time from QBs college stats to project NFL success. It's been fairly accurate, with the caveat that the current sample size is rather small. Still, it should be no surprise that Henne is a decent QB at the pro level.

How does Flacco fit into this discussion? I figured he would be the worst of the three personally.

had edwards not been mr. butterfingers, Henne's number would have been EVEN BETTER. He was very inconsistent

come on man. Big time schools with pro style offenses are going to have playmaker WR's. Don't fault Henne for that. Didn't he start as a true freshman??
