Common Theme in Saints Opponents

I've started to notice a common them in Saints opponents, especially for big time games.

Ask any Saints fan right now what team (besides Atlanta, of course) in recent memory just get's on their nerves. Most will probably say Bears, Eagles, maybe Cowboys and Vikings.
It's understandable since the Saints played all these teams in pretty high profile games, but the Saints have also recently played the Cardinals, Patriots, Giants, and especially the Colts in very high profiles games, yet there is a lot less animosity towards these teams.
The reason for this is clearly in the attitude of the opposing teams fans. The fans of teams in the latter group for the most part were good sports about the competition. Take the Super Bowl, the biggest game in Saints history. You would think with that much on the line there would be some bad blood towards the only thing standing in the way of the Saints and the ultimate prize, but after the game the attitude between the opposing fans seemed relatively neutral if not positive. Colts fans seem to accept that they were beaten fair and square in a pretty equal match up in which the Saints got a few more good breaks, made a few more good decisions and walked away with the Lombardi. Any decent sports fan can respect that kind of good sportsmanship in opposing fans.

Now look at the Vikings. Another huge contest for both teams with both teams fairly equally matched in a close game that came down to the wire. Again, the Saints got a few more good breaks, made a few more good decisions and they ended out on top. No body could deny that night that either team could beat the other team any given Sunday after seeing that match up. There should have been a mutual respect between the two opponents.

But that isn't what happened, is it? Instead you have a bunch of bad sports whining for six months about how their geriatric quarterback was hit too hard, how a spot was 1-2 inches off, barking in the NFL and the media's ear enough so that they change the rules in an overtime game. Fans make empty threats towards Drew Brees such as wanting to break his bones and knock him out for the season.
Instead of lining up, shaking hands, and saying "Good game," they take ignore the lessons of Coach Mora and keep the "woulda, coulda, shoulda" approach towards an impressive display of the sport by each team that "shoulda" been a glorious moment of entertainment for all.
So it comes down to this: it isn't that hard to gain the respect of Saints fans. We want to like you, we want to respect you, but we can't do that if you ignore the concept of sportsmanship and proceed to act like 11 year olds who just lost the little league game and don't get to go to Chuck E. Cheese for a victory party. Be a good sport, and for most of us, you're ok. We can even be friends.
Act like a dick, and we'll send pizzas to your house, get you fired from your job at the gym, tell your dad you're gay, and make you regret ever signing up for Facebook.

Cliffnotes: Be a good sport, Saints fans will like and respect you.
Be a bad sport, Saints fans will destroy you for their own entertainment.

Put Atlanta first, and that's my top five most hated teams right now. And it's all because of their consistently moronic fanbases.

In my experience, Viqueens fans are the worst. And I've been around a bunch of them. They suck as fans AND as human beings.

The hate for the Vikings runs deep for me. I don't care if their fans would have kissed our arse after the game, I still would hate them.

Viking hatred started for me in the Wild Card playoff game in 1987. Then you have the Culpepper 2 pt conversion game. Don't forget the "Rape Reggie and steal the ball and not be penalized" game.

frick the Vikings and their crybaby fans.

I can't believe I'm typing this but..........the Cowboys almost don't belong in this group.

Sure they act like asses, but I get the feeling it is taken less serious by them than the Bears, Eagles, Vikings, etc....

Maybe because they expect to win it the next year already.

The fans don't bother me as much as the a-hole Viqueens themselves on the sidelines. I sit behind the visitors bench and they are always taunting the crowd.

Might also be because the Saints beat the Cardinals, Patriots, Giants, and Colts in those high profile games. And I know we beat the Vikings and Eagles in playoff games, but, we had playoff losses to them first.

Yeah the Falcons definitely still have to top this list but the Vikings are making a serious push with their relentless bitchiness this offseason

Viking fans are the worst.... even worse than Cowboy fans..... I never thought the day would come.

And you guys have to remember the one dickhead Colt fan that got an internet beatdown courtesy of the fine folks here at TD.

I agree for the most part with the OP, except for the comment that "we got a few more breaks."

IMO the ONLY break we got was McCray not getting called for the low hit on Favre.

Minnesota actually had a lot more penalties and penalty yardage called on them than the Saints did !!!

Of their 8 fumbles, they recovered 2 of them just when it looked like the Saints were in position to recover them.
4 others lost were CAUSED by Saints hits. The other 2 by crowd noise.

The interference call on their LB on David Thomas was legit. He tripped Thomas, whether inadvertent or not, and he did NOT look back for the ball, or turn his body around AT ALL. That's interference.

Also, the Saints were called for late hits on Favre """"""""ZERO""""""""" times. They did call Hargrove for 'unnecessary roughness' for picking up Favre and driving him into the ground.
(Something the Vikings did to Brees on the last drive that was """""""""""NOT"""""""""""" called!

Many of the Saints hits on Favre were vicious, but clean. And 0 were late. As far as I know, it is legal to hit the QB as he is releasing the ball, or a split second after he has thrown it. Blame the Vikings OL, not the Saints "rough hits" on Favre.

Also, what was it that the Vikings D-line was doing to Romo in Minnesota the week before? Playing patty-cake ??????????????????

I love some of these idiots who think the NFL wanted the Saints to win and it was 'fixed.'

Yeah, right. The Vikings purposely rammed the ball into the Saints helmets and hands to cause fumbles. Favre threw the late INT on purpose. The Vikings racked up yardage between the 20's, but purposely allowed the Saints D to stop them in the red zone. High comedy.

They should rename Minnesota from "The State of 10,000 Lakes" - to: "The State of 10 Million Gurgling Vaginas."

I like the Eagles as a team, but everyone knows that Philly fans are the worst people on earth, regardless of the sport.

As much as I hate the Falcons simply b/c they are our biggest rival, I have to tell you that I've had nothing but positive experiences with their fans. Actually, I'd rather go a Falcons b/c we get to beat our rival and the fans are cool will go out and have a good time after the game with you.

I agree 100% on everything you posted. Just sub out Saints fans with Titans fans.

We absolutely hate Steelers fans. Two years ago they came to Nashville and we destroyed them. What happens, they were picking fights with old men in the bathrooms, harassing our women, and calling us country faggots.

I despise everything Pittsburgh now. I am so pumped for week 2 when those idiots come to Nashville and we destroy them again.

I wanted to seriously frick up some Vikings fans after the game. Some of the calls in that came were incredibly awful.

There are a few teams that I hope never win another game and it has nothing to do with their fans.

Atlanta
Dallas
Minnesota

Some that I really don't care for, but don't hate.

NY Jets (Rex Ryan gets on my nerves, but I don't dislike the team all that much)
Baltimore Ravens (probably because Rex Ryan used to be there)
San Fran 49ers (Long time fans know why)
Every other team in the NFC South.
