Penn State is not going to open the checkbook and pay the going rate for an elite coach, so it isn't going to be as appealing as it would appear on the surface.

Pennsylvania is loaded with high school talent and there are no legit instate competitors. On top of that, they are the only top tier school in the entire northeast. Unless a Big 10 school comes east or VT goes north, PSU really should have their pick of New York and New Jersey talent as well.

The fan support is great and I believe they have good facilities. Really, the systemic factors in favor of Penn St put them among the top five jobs in the country. There's almost no excuse NOT to go at least 9-3 every year. People bitch about that at LSU, and PSU is even better set up than LSU. I think it is a great, great job.

no way

UF
UT
OSU
FSU
USC
LSU
UGA

all have more money, better facilities, and more local/elite talent. and i'll throw UM over PSU as well, even though it has to cherry pick national recruits and Ohio kids

actually the HS talent in PA has been down the past few recruiting classes----- maybe still top ten in the country --- but not as good as it used to be --- also, pitt seems to be taking a majority of the great pennsylvania in-state recruits these days----

I'll agree that it's not as rich as it used to be, but Penn State is making up for it in NJ and NY. Throw in Maryland too.

ND has been more productive in NJ/NY then PSU recently---and NY does produce some elite players occasionally, but they still do not produce near as many as ohio, texas, florida, louisana, etc considering its population----

penn state currently has the 57th ranked recruiting class----LINK --- (yes, that bad and just one spot ahead of UCF)----so they have been struggling----still, i do believe the PSU job is attractive, but i think it falls in the 10-15 range----

I keep getting questioned on my top 5 and I am going to stand by it.I am not sure this is the correct order but they are in there somewhere.

Gators
USC
Texas
Penn State
Bama

It maybe down right now but I think with a new coach and a fired up fan base it could be a monster.

How about that ginger that kept explaining things to Joe Pa on the sidelines in the Citrus Bowl?

Also, Al Golden is one of the best up and coming coaches out there.

Dude, it's like 6 months from signing day. They have FOUR commits so far - that's why their rank is so low. They'll be top 20 when it matters in the end.

4 commits is a problem at this point in time (obviously) especially if you are losing in state prospects to pittsburgh----also, they are not in on many of the top 150 recruits *lists*----penn state fans are very concerned with recruiting this year----

you pick PSU and leave out the 2 superior programs (well, not 1 currently) in PSU's conference?

---yeah ohio state has to be in the top 5---more HS talent, superior resources and facilities, and weaker recruiting competition then penn state faces in-state---ohio states biggest recruiting competitor in-state is...bowling green? toledo? miami?

while we're on the subject, is there any job thats even close to texas?

you got:

best recruiting ground
facilities as good as anyone, if not better
as much money as anyone, if not more
and a largely apathetic fanbase

there are other jobs that get close, namely florida, but even they arent close to texas, imo
