Really doesn't surprise me that we dumped his contract in the uncapped year and picked him back up on the cheap.
He didn't have any leverage. There are a ton of average DEs available on the market right now.

practice squad material - he has done nothing as a Saint

He is ineligible for the practice squad due to how long he has been in the NFL and how much he has played.
He will be a situational pass rusher only. Besides, we might need him in week 1 to do this to Favre.

I was kidding, but I do think he will be a back up at best.

Bobby Mccray sucked last year... that's all the guy is saying IMO.

you didn't know why he couldn't be on the practice squad. Thats what he's saying.

The Saints surprised the football-following world not long ago by abruptly cutting defensive end Bobby McCray.
The Saints have done it again; McCray has re-signed with the team, per a league source.
According to the source, the deal has a base salary of $1.5 million, with another $1 million available in incentives.
The move tends to confirm the notion that the Saints made the move in late June because McCray was due to receive a roster bonus of $1.25 million in early July, along with a $2 million base salary.
The team took a risk that McCray would sign elsewhere. And, just like it did with safety Darren Sharper, everything worked out for the defending champs.

I like him as a backup. He's decent as a 3rd down situational guy.

He sucked last year because of a back injury. There was a thread on another board where someone credible posted highlights from a long conversation with Gregg Williams and his son. One of the comments was along the lines that McCray was not the player he used to be due to injuries.
If he's healthy and anywhere near his pre-injury self, he makes a great backup that can rush the passer and fill in when necessary.
