The show is set to air in August. I don't know the exact date yet. It is a show about alligator hunting. I have a camp in Pierre Part and my neighbor down there is in the show. My neighbor and his uncle caught 47 alligators on the opening weekend and had 3 over 12 feet long. Basically, from what I understand, it is going to be similar to the Deadliest Catch where they follow different groups of people and film them catching alligators. I have seen some pictures from when it was filmed. It was filmed in 2009, but they keep pushing back the air date. It was first set to air in April. I am ready for them to go ahead and air the show. It should be entertaining to say the least.

From zap2it tv listings:

quote:

The ``Swamp People'' featured in this History Channel series are the proud descendants of French Canadian refugees who settled in the swamp region of Louisiana in the 18th century. Cameras follow members of this fiercely independent group as they struggle to preserve their way of life in the Atchafalaya Basin during the most important time of the year for them: alligator-hunting season.

Set to premiere next Sunday (Aug. 22) at 9:00 CT.

My husband can't wait for this to start. I hope he's not disappointed, but I fear that it will stereotype people from LA and make them look like idiots.

I will be interested in watching this as I hunted alligators for about 12 years straight. I'm sure they will make it out to be way more dangerous than it is.

Half the country already believes we go to work in pirogues and eat grilled baby alligators for dinner (squirrel for desert). A show like this will surely clear the air.

set the hooks, pull up, shoot. Repeat.

But I have a feeling some yahoo will be jumping into the waters, spalshing all around, while the camera zooms in on the 5 foot man killer.

Should be a great show

Yeah even a big gator doesn't have too much fight with a hook in his gut. Only time you have to be really careful is when they crawl up on the bank and get tangled in the bushes/tall grass.

Do you mean "production," or were you passing out condoms to the cast and crew?

Yep this sucks. Especially if they go straight back away from the canal and are on high land or in roseau canes. Have to get in the canes/grass and go get them. Had to go get a 11 footer once. Not fun.

Back in the days before all these regulations, my dad used to hunt them with a headlight, pirogue, and a .22. He would shine them, paddle up to them and shoot them(most of the time under a few feet of water. One time he shot a 12 footer (he thought it was smaller) like that and it flipped him, the gun, and the light in the water. He said he was scared shitless until he got his light, gun, and pirogue ready. He went back over where he shot it and the gator was dead.
