I can't believe how expensive Felix's in the Quarter is. I ate there recently and it was $25 a person for really mundane food.

There are lots of good restaurants in the Quarter that don't kill your wallet. Felix is hailed by locals, too. I don't understand.

My bad...I could've included the caveat of a doorway away from Bourbon as well.

Capitalizing on those who can't get into Acme...both are overrated for what they charge. They weren't always that way, though.

This times a thousand. I can't believe people eat at either place.

Where would you go instead of ACME or Felix for oysters???

I am not from N.O., so I just know about these two places. I have been to the Rivershack and some place over in that area that had a nautical name, but can't remember the name. I want to say the Galley, but I don't think that's it.

ETA: it was the Galley/

Felix's is noted by locals for the fresh shucked oysters. Not many people care for the food off the menu. Just stradle up to the bar, order a cold one and a dozen shucked.

I know you are not calling the Galley a gross place. Can't be. That is one of the better seafood places in the area for boiled seafood.

On the subject of Felix's, there was an article a few days ago I saw about their oyster shuckers and others in the city and how they are taking a hit because of not enough oysters. These old dudes have a special skill and def. a gift of gab and many have been doing this stuff for over 20 years.

This.
Only tourist get suckered into going there and trying to eat a real meal there.

Btw, folks. Things are more expensive in the french quarter than in other parts of the city. That is kind of how tourist areas with high rents do it around the country.

Felix's off St Charles in the garden district had very good food when we ate there 2 or 3 yrs ago. The fresh collard greens and the soft shell I had were solid. Need to take a flashlight because the lights are too dim to read the menu. Don't know if they're still there.
