cutting garrett doesn't seem to logically fit in with this

I agree. This whole thing is strange.

LSU coach Les Miles confirmed Thursday night that redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Garrett is leaving the football program. Garrett had a meeting with Miles on Wednesday and asked for his release. Miles granted Garrett his release. Garrett cannot transfer to any Southeastern Conference school other than Mississippi State. [details]

unless for some reason the coaches would rather go with Barrett Bailey/Zach Lee(maybe) then CG? I mean that's the only explanation here. That they feel they have other QB's on the roster or coming in that are better that CG. And in the past, CG would stay and take up space and maybe even play over somebody else. Now, he's gone.

I've heard Garrett was called into Miles office last year when it was apparent that the QB situation was up for grabs, and Miles in no uncertain terms asked him if he was ready.

The answer was supposedly no.

If this in fact took place, it's definitely not what you want to hear, esp. at that position.

I tend to think this move was a result of a called bluff. The Lee camp may have asked for a guarantee of no competition.

I hope Miles knows what he's doing here, because he just gave Lee serious leverage with the Dodgers. There number will have to be extremely high and a hard one to turn down.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if Miles got played, but I'd like to give him some credit here.
