I know, I know, NOT College Station.
Am required to spend a night there and am looking for recommendations for a good Friday evening meal for myself, my wife and son. We might enjoy a good BBQ or Mexican place.
Thanks in advance.

Go up the road 30 minutes to Hearne, TX to Johnny Reb's Dixie Cafe. Best chicken fried steak, mash potaters and green beans ever...

BBQ: I think you'd be happy with Rudy's BBQ, or C&J BBQ. Both are family friendly... I slightly prefer C&J.
Tex-Mex: I don't think the Mexican/Tex-Mex choices in College Station are that great, it's mainly big chains... you'd have to go into Bryan for better stuff, and it's a little less family friendly there. But, there's Ninfa's in CS.
Other: Wings N' More has a wide variety of food and is very popular with families.. good chicken tenders, good burgers, good wings, good prices.
Sodolak's Beefmasters is a good place to go for "country" food... chicken fried steaks, etc.
Dixie Chicken food is really cheap bar food... it sucks.

I just lurk on TexAgs, but that argument starts a nuclear war every time.
Coming from Louisiana, I stick to Cane's with pride.

Drive about 30 minutes west to Sommerville Texas. Take Hwy 60 west to Hwy 36 south about 2 miles on right. White building.
Sommerville Steak House (or something like that)
Best Chicken Fried Steak your stomach would ever want inside it. They have 2 sizes....huge and huger.
And they serve iced tea in huge 32oz plastic tumblers.
And it is CHEAP!

First trip to College Station when I was at LSU, stayed in a hotel with an Arby's next door. First time I had ever seen an Arby's, I think I ate there two or three times a day
Also learned the lesson about what happens when a cop with an A&M clipboard pulls over someone wearing an LSU Football shirt

Good choice Arbys is one of the best options in town.

Ive been here for the past year. Dont know what you guys are bitching about The Chicken for, thats a great hamburger (get the jalapenos on it).
Koppe Bridge has a great burger too. The fries there are much better as well (I think they are home cut).
Rudys>>>CJs
Eccel steakhouse is pretty OK, overpriced however.
All in All, it aint home (Welsh, la in my case)

The Ninfas here is nowhere near the one in Baton rouge. Have been twice. I have been to 4 or 5 Mex joints and wouldnt recommend any.
Rudy's is a very informal place, but excellent. I would go there if yall have never been. Otherwise take em to Eccel, the one by campus is the original
