Does anyone have a recent update on the Destin Beaches? The topic has not had an update in the last few days. I am heading that way with the family in a few days and wanted to know what to expect. I do not fully trust the media reports and I know a large number of people here go there on vacation. Thanks.

How are the jellyfish? Have they been a problem yet? We are planning to be there on the 17th.

No jellyfish, seaweed though the water had a grennish tent for most of the day. But around 5 it started to clear up. The under current was killer today very big waves expacted the next couple of days.

came back yesterday from ft. walton, it was great, on friday i've never seen the water look that great, the waves were huge. saturday and sunday the water wasn't as pretty but still looked great. work crews wd come out and sweep the beach for tar, and wd scoop them up if they found any. they did this around 8 am where i was staying. it took them evry bit of 10 mins. to go through our area of the beach, where there were about 15 condos.

My parents are there now. No oil other than the suntan variety. My dad said that it's about 1/3 of the people he is used to seeing the week of the 4th.

I am here now; and there is no oil on Miramar Beach area of Destin. I hope it stays away 'cause we plan on coming back in early fall.

Have any beaches at Destin been closed at all for any period since the Oil Rig Disaster?

I was in Perdido all last week. Tar all over the beach and there was a light oily line left on the beach when the tide would drop. Workers were cleaning it up and for the most part we could hang out on the beach. It rained alot and it slowed the cleaning efforts but when it rains people don't sit on the beach anyway.

Just got back from Destin. NO OIL to be found. Stayed at Silver Shells condos. Waves were rough cause of the winds. Algae came in one of the days a little bit. Water was beautiful first 2 days there.

I was in Destin all last week. I think we saw two tarballs the whole time. There's no oil in Destin, but the media misinformation and hype is killing the tourist season. I feel sorry for those people down there. Its all bullshite, but some of these panicky tourist are buying into into the hype.

I got back from Destin Saturday. Had 1 tarball attach itself to the crotch area of my shorts. Other than that it was fine. There were some C-130 lookin planes spraying a dispersant of some sort that seemed to be slightly noticeable in the water.

Some of the best wave action I've ever seen in Destin, I assume from the tropical thing in Texas/Mexico.
