true. Sweet name. Terrible hands. I was always more partial to Xavier Whipple anyways.

I don't think Shinn is cheap in terms of players.

He's cheap in terms of everything else. He runs the team like its a mom and pop operation. And he's a weird guy.

Totally agree with this. I'd love to see a comparison of front office/scouting personnel to other NBA teams strictly by quantity.

Pretty sure I read that before but I wasn't sure. Definitely sad.

Explains the draft history outside of last year. (And West)

There was an article in a pretty major magazine about the Hornets front office operations a year or so ago. I wish I could find it.

It was depressing. They are basically in a basement like office in the Alario Center with a skeleton Front Office.

Other teams have something like triple the personel that we have.

Boom, found it. It was on Yahoo:

LINK

quote:

As franchises go, the Hornets have the most streamlined front office in the NBA. Beyond the practice gym, there are modest connecting offices with thin walls between Bower and his assistant GM, Brian Hagen. There’s the front office, just a GM and his assistant. The Hornets have two full-time scouts on the road. And that’s it. Most teams have three and four times the personnel, but not the New Orleans Hornets.

They’re the barest-bones operation in the NBA, and yet under Bower they’ve shown themselves to be a model of resourcefulness and resolve.

George Shinn is the one NBA owner without another industry where he makes his money. The Hornets are his business, and Shinn runs this organization like the corner Mom and Pop. The Hornets hire cheap, and hire cheaper when those talented people move up and out to the rest of the NBA.

Shinn was a diploma mill guy. He couldn't sniff NBA ownership in the modern day, if not for buying it back then, not even with the league in slight decline vs years ago.

Mecoms and Benson couldn't own an NFL team in today's NFL..ownership model dollar scale has far bypassed them..

Some are Steinbrenners and Chouest and Fords whom build boats and cars..others were merely Spanos and Benson..whom sold used ones.

P.S. Do you think a Lakers tix sales guy would ever be busted as a bookie, trying to make a living, like a lowly paid Hornet guy was recently as an stateside agent for an offshore BM?

We can trade him for a pick and a bag of dicks and pick up a big time FA. It works in the trade machine so it must be possible irl.

I'm picturing clicking on "bag of dicks" in the trade machine.
