Politicians say what their constituents want them to say. They don't not believe that UH belongs in the Big 12, but they're saying this now because it's a hot topic, and it behooves a politician to pick the side that will make him more popular.

If they played quality opponents at home, I'd go to some UH games. Unfortunately I can't get that stoked over Tulsa, UCF, or Memphis.

I say let them in. What difference would it make? They are better than Colorado was. Their chances of beating UT or OU are nill so, "let'm have it"!

They beat Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and Mississippi State last year. Not bad for a high school team. People like you "add nothing" to decent society.

In addition, their basketball program is historically better than a lot of SEC schools. Not to mention they have had successful football teams and players in the past (Andre Ware).

They better hope the rest of their athletic facilities are up to snub with the rest of the Big XII. I remember playing Houston in the Liberty Bowl and the Houston fans being amazed at the size of Memphis' 62,000 seat stadium. (which as it turns out is almost exactly twice as big as Houston's stadium) Not to mention they had to actually give away tickets to try to fill out more of their side because they had a hard time getting Cougar fans to go (I sat on the Cougar side myself)

It's definitely not crazy to at least consider them. Ware won a Heisman, the football program was consistently competitive in the 70s and 80s. and have been to bowls most of this decade. Basketball has been to the Final Four multiple times as well. Probation and the collapse of the SWC set their athletic program back years and killed their support. I'm not saying they'd be the best grab for the Big 12, but UofH has shown in the past they can be relevant when competing with the rest of the big Texas schools.

First, UH isn't going to the Big2 plus 8. As for your answer, one word 'grief'. That's because we can win in that league and Aggy, Tech, and Baylor know it. It happened before it would happen again.

Aggy hasn't played us in 15+ years. To Tech's credit, they played us and lost (We'll see what happens this year). OSU lost 2 of 3. Baylor wouldn't have any part in a game with us.

Aggy says they own the Houston market. Prove it on the field. As for TV, check the ratings for UT/Tech on ABC and compare to UH/TECH on ESPN2. You might be surprised.

Yet Art Briles saw Baylor as a higher job than Houston.

Exactly, They have a good recent history in fb and hoops. As you mentioned they've been to Cotton Bowls and have a Heisman trophy winner. Back in the 70s, 80s, and until the mid 90s they were at the time a major program. You can argue that historically they have a better hoops history than Texas.

Some of you younger folks need to learn some history before you rip certain schools.

There really isn't an argument.

I never said anything about the school or it's athletic teams. I merely question the amount of fan support. I doubt the Big Whatever thinks that they will get enough new TV sets to justify cutting out an extra peice of the pie. It's that simple.

When I started at LSU in 99', we didn't fill the stadiums...

If you build it, they will come.

Then UH needs to build it. But until they prove it, I doubt the Big-12 offers... Not with the greed exhibited so far.

...Well, I take that back. They might let them join for an even smaller share of the pie than the smaller schools are getting.

I guess I'm biased, but I think the City of Houston would really respond to good college football, and it's not gonna come from Rice.
