Wow...This UT Arrogance Knows No Bounds...

The following quotes are from some guy named Kirk Bohls who writes for the Austin paper - LINK
Not sure comparing yourself to Notre Dame and the Big East is the best measure of your awesomeness but whatever.
At least he offered this:
And even he questions where the $ is going to come from:
quote:
After weeks of negotiating, haggling, whispering and rumor-denying, massive conference realignment eventually became minuscule, and the major points were driven home loud and clear. Don't mess with Texas. And Texas doesn't mess up.
quote:
If you haven't been paying attention, the Longhorns ruled the Big 12 for a decade-and-a-half, and they will rule the new Big 12.
quote:
Quite simply, the nation should know now — if it didn't before — that Texas is on par with Notre Dame, the prize every league from the WAC to the MAC would love to have. The Big Ten or Pac-10 might make overtures to Texas again. Texas can go to any conference it wishes.
quote:
"There's no doubt in my mind," one Longhorns head coach said Tuesday, "that if Texas called the Big East and said we wanted to come, they'd say, ‘Absolutely.' "When that coach was told by colleagues around the nation that Texas should go independent and make its own way, he said with a chuckle, "Yeah, you're right. We're powerful."
Not sure comparing yourself to Notre Dame and the Big East is the best measure of your awesomeness but whatever.
At least he offered this:
quote:
Every school has to look out for its own interests, but here's a wish that Texas would make more compromises in terms of revenue-sharing if it truly wants to act like a family. The fact that it gets the lion's share of the Big 12 money — and the Bears' and the Tigers' and the Wildcats' share, etc. — will always be problematic and breed resentment.
And even he questions where the $ is going to come from:
quote:
This new alliance smacks of a tenuous, flimsy arrangement that binds together the remaining 10 teams. On Tuesday, there was no announcement of that pending, new television deal with Fox, no hard figures as to what Texas or any of the schools can expect, although a Big 12 spokesman said estimates that all of the schools could top at least $14 million a year — and that Texas, OU and A&M could reach $20 million — are "believed to be realistic."

Does Lane Kiffen work for Texas now? Sounds just like his "In our mind, our fans and everyone involved in the USC program, that USC is an extremely powerful place. It's an extremely powerful university. It's an extremely powerful football program."

If Texas tried to join the Pac-10 or SEC right now, do you think either conference would let them in? I think they may have poisoned the well.
Posted on 6/16/10 at 5:21 pm to Baloo
Pac-10 might, but I would hope the SEC would just say no.
Posted on 6/16/10 at 5:27 pm to liquid rabbit
I don't know.... the leaked Pac-10 quote about the 11th Hour changes demanded by Texas just seethed bitterness. They might be done as well.
Posted on 6/16/10 at 5:29 pm to Baloo
Not one conference in the country would turn UT away.
They bring in the entire state of Texas to a TV deal. Too much money to be gained by that.

In the last 39 year, Texs has a grand total of ONE national chammpioship. The following schools have more:
Alabama- 5
Miami- 5
Nebraska- 4
Oklahoma- 4
Florida- 3
Notre Dame- 3
USC- 3
FSU- 2
LSU- 2
Penn State- 2
Schools that also have ONE title in that time:
Georgia
Georgia Tech
Clemson
Ohio State
Michigan
BYU
Washington
Colrado
Goor lord Texas, with all that money and recruits you have at your disposal and your natural built in superiority, how is it that you have the same amount of titles the last 39 years as Georgia Tech, Clemson and BYU? Hell, your tied with Colorado for THIRD in your own damn conference with colrado behind Nebraska (who had the good sense to bolt) and Oklahoma? Thats just pathetic.

This is the correct answer.
As much as we may hate them, they have alot to offer the conference in terms of dollars and cents.

Why an odd number like 39? Why not 40 or 45? Could it be that would negate your rant?

Actually, it is 1 in 40. But, yes, beware arbitrary endpoints: 2 in 41 years. Still, Texas won three national titles in a 10 year period, and only one over the rest of their existence. Texas has the same number of recognized national titles as LSU (we don't claim 1908, but it is recognized by the College Football Encyclopedia). Texas is clearly on a tier below the truly elite: USC, Notre Dame, and Bama. And they probably rank behind Nebraska and OU, historically. Texas and LSU are peers.

Didn't you read?
UT only has one peer...Notre Dame.

I would say that UT has the largest TV audience in a big city that actually cares about college football

fify. I agree with everything else you wrote too.

In order to join the SEC, Texas would have to agree to equal revenue sharing. They will never come.
