How bad a PR hit has Texas taken in all this?

Who the hell knows what has gone on behind closed doors - it's possible we will never know all the details, but it sure seems from an outsider's perspective that Texas has taken a huge PR hit from all this IMO.

Never thought much of Texas to begin with. Could never respect a school with such feminine band uniforms.

Do you think it really matters?

Texas has to live within its political reality. It has to be seen that it is doing everything it can to salvage the Big 12-2. Texas committed to the conference in its meeting with Mizzou, Colorado and Neb and it is apparently committing now.
This is all reindeer games to make A&M look like the bad guy for leaving. You know this, I know this, but it will still be A&M taking the massive PR hit if they leave.

I'm not so sure about this PR hit.

No, it does not "have" to be seen this way. It WANTS to be seen in this self-serving light which does not withstand the barest logical scrutiny. but keep playing that card. Texas will do everything it can to preserve the Big 12 short of, you know, removing the causes of competitive inequality at the source of everyone else's complaints. Because that's just crazy talk.

A&M won't be taking the hit. The general public, as dumb as they are, still understands that this is all on Texas.

I don't think the biggest hit will be in PR as much as trust from the other Big 12 institutions if everyone stays in a 10-team Big 12.
With the ever-looming threat of Texas leaving for greener pastures, every other school in the conference would be looking out for #1.

You hit the nail on the head. Decision makers at other schools simply do not trust DeLoss Dodds or Texas going forward as business partners.

I don't think A&M will take a PR hit. Look at Nebraska and Colorado - from what I've seen everyone is on-board with their moves and felt that it was the best thing for those schools to do.
A&M will be the same throughout the sports communities - they will be praised for making the decision to do what's best for the interests of the school and their sports programs.

When UT is holding hands with west coast fruitloops and aTm is playing in the SEC, we'll see who "takes the PR hit" in Texas.

The Dallas Morning News ran multiple articles blaming A&M for the end of the rivalry if this goes down, and the Ticket has been bemoaning the same point all day. They wouldn't even listen when a caller pointed out that it was Texas calling for the blackball. I think its safe to say that as foolish as it sounds A&M is going to look like the bad guy to most people at the end of the day.

I love the Ticket, but most of their sports analysis is ridiculously off point, particularly on college football (which they barely cover). This morning they were seriously arguing that Arkansas to the Big 12 was likely and that Arkansas seriously regrets its move to the SEC. All, of course, based on Chip Brown's reporting.
It's amazing how in the bag for Texas the local media is. They were making the case A&M wants to go the SEC solely out of spite. Which is crazy. A&M wants to go the SEC to make money and maybe win football games by creating differention from UT in their recruiting pitch.

I'm not saying it makes any sense. Its just whats being put out there. And there a shite ton more casual fans of the horns that listen to the ticket than that spend a ton of time on the message boards. If its getting pumped out in state like that its likely to be the message that takes hold.
The biggest flaw to me is the idea that a new conference= the end of a rivalry.
I suppose no fan of texas remembers 15 years ago when OU and UT where in different conferences for a huge portion of their history and they managed to play a very intense rivalry game. Its just foolish.

So everyone nationwide is going to be swayed by a few biased articles and tv/radio spots that air only in Texas? Believe me, the perception nationwide is that Texas looks like the jilted control-freak lover.

If they've got their own people on board how much do they really care so long as they've got their money and TV network?

Yep. The other guy is talking about the perception of Texas fans in Texas that it will be A&M's fault. Well no shite. The general public though, as said before, know that it is all Texas and their doing.

I think UT will win the PR war in Texas given how much they control the media here. They'll win the causal Texas fan, which does matter.
