What would have to happen for Tulane to get an invite to the SEC?

They would have to stop sucking for starters.

They had their shot, they willingly left the SEC years ago.

Another three mile wide meteor would have to hit off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and wipe out all living things.

LSU would have to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy and Tulane would have to relocate to Baton Rouge after buying them out at a court-sponsored liquidation.

A time machine and stop them from leaving originally.

what would have to happen for you not to ask dumb questions?

I think they would have to show some real commitment to the athletic program. Starting with a new stadium.
Not gonna happen though.
Not gonna happen though.

If Tulane commits to their athletic programs both financially and academically (as is rumored they are currently doing)...
And if Tulane builds comparable facilities that allow the teams to compete and fans to return...
And if Tulane can actually compete in athletics...
And if the Big 12 holds together through this conference expansion environment and invites Tulane as one of their new teams (in order to get a foothold into an SEC market and in Louisiana for recruiting purposes)...
And if Tulane is successful in doing all of the above for 15 to 20 years, and continues to grow their athletic programs...
And if by doing so the SEC's revenues are damaged by attrition, and the next round of television contracts would not see a needed increase of funding per school...
And if the size of the greater New Orleans television market were to grow by 50% to 100%, and Tulane were to pull a decent portion of the market...
And, possibly, if the SEC were to need to increase the average academic ranking of member institutions for one reason or another...
Then, Tulane might get an invite.
And I say this as someone who would prefer to have Tulane and Georgia Tech back in the conference. It's just not happening in today's environment with things how they are, but only a fool would say "never" and not be able to look at possibilities down the road.

-Demonstate a real committment to improving their FB program, which I think could be eliminated at any time.
-Build their own on-campus FB stadium (i.e. what SMU did with Ford Field).
-Demonstrate over a period of time support through fannies in the seats.
That's just for starters, there's probably much more that would have to be done.

LSU, Ark, Bama, AU, Ole Miss, and Miss. St. joining the Big 12.
And even then they would still probably be 8-10 spots down the list of invites.
