Been saying it was nice all week, and this afternoon the oil started washing up and it's getting bad.
I've heard from others that it comes in waves (tides, etc.) and is usually cleaned up quickly. Is this the case?

That sucks. I'm going to book a room in the Hilton Garden Inn on Orange Beach b/c I want to see this shite for myself. Get appropriately angry. Maybe write "frick B.P." in large letters on the beach.

We're leaving on Thursday. Phoenix West is only 60% occupied for the weekend.
Gonna have the place to ourselves

We're leaving Monday morning for a week at the Phoenix 6. I hope it is 10% occupied!
(I hate crowds) My mom is in Perdido now and is keeping us posted daily. She says Perdido is as beautiful as ever.

Leaving tomorrow for Fort Morgan to do some Spec and Red fishing in the bay. Local reports are that they are tearing it up right now.

Bull Reds ,30-40 pounds ,are biting on a falling tide @ Dixey Bar. Specks up to 5lbs are piled up at the rigs at the lower end of the bay. Use live crokers for both

write it in deep letters, fill the letter with the oil, and then light it on fire. Then not only are you say frick B.P. in a much cooler manner, youre also helping clean up the oil

Very much liked our stay there last summer. One of the few properties with a lazy river/water slide on the beach side.

I just got back from Pensacola last night and saw no oil at all, there were workers on the beach looking for tar balls all day but I didnt see any.. The water was actually more clear than I have ever seen, so I wouldnt cancel any trips yet..

We're supposed to arrive in Gulf Shores July 10th. Meyer has relaxed the 30-day cancellation policy and implemented a 24-hour policy so we're hanging on to our reservation. We have family converging on GS from Little Rock, NOLA and Charlotte NC. Looking forward to a great trip but watching the oil/beach situation closely. Right now, best we can tell, there's a swimming advisory but no beach closure. If the situation remains like that we will still come and just enjoy the pool and other atractions down there. I feel like the best way to combat this problem - at least economically if not ecologically - is to continue to support the folks making a living along the Gulf Coast with our vacation dollars. They need it now more than ever. Also strongly considering exploring volunteering opportunities down there. Would like to maybe have my family take a morning and volunteer doing something to help the cleanup efforts (assuming volunteers are needed. I know some of the cleanup requires training and volunteers would be in the way.) I think spending time trying to help down there would be a great experience for my kids - as well as myself.
However, if the beach closes and the situation takes a drastic turn for the worse, we will have to consider another place for the family to gather. Crossing fingers and hoping for the best. Really appreciate those of you who are going to the Gulf Shores/OB/Perdido area sending back regular updates on the conditions.
