When the public finds out, how will they truly react?

I have a friend who captain's large tankers for an oil company.
He told me that BP bribed the minerals folk to not have to accommodate all of the safety regs, including not dropping 500K on an Acoustic blow out preventor control system...standard for deep wells.
He also told me that the US government was denying permits to skim the water surface OUT AT SEA. There have been tankers and skimmers ready since day one. They want to skim the oil while it is out at sea. It is not a perfect system, but it is something. A gallon taken up at sea is a gallon not in the marsh.
Another friend who works for Shell commented that the government was taking steps to further the problem.

You need less dumb friends.

I wish I could say that shocks me and that could not be true, BUT with this group, anything is possible. Eco nuts might be using this to try and stop drilling in the gulf for good.

That is usually the case with any and all government action.

You and your friend are morons.

Well my friend works at a cupcake shop and he says it is all true.

You have not been paying attention to anything that is going on...have you?

But some guy wrote an article in the Wall Street journal about this Sid. Every other country in the world requires the use of super special BOP's, but the U.S. doesn't require them because they cost $175 more. It's true dammit, I read it my ownself.

Link?
Statements like that lower the quality of this board, and show an inability to generate an effective argument or to research and analyze data.
Shooting the messenger does not invalidate his message.
Please explain your hostility and your unwillingness to expound and share a little of your 'non-moronic' wisdom with those of us who aren't party to your perfect state of enlightenment.
If you can't refute a guy's argument with facts rather than insults, then perhaps you should just pipe down and let the adults discuss the issue.

quote:First off oil companies don't own tankers. They are owned by independent carriers these days. Anything after that loses mucho credibility.

There are alot of guys who work in the industry who have provided great information on there since this whole thing started.
Yeah, I guess someone should have broken down the post and responded to the information, but it got old around three weeks ago with people that had "friends" that knew things, that somehow nobody else knew about.

So you're defending that vapid and nonsensical waste of bandwidth?
Props to you for pointing out a FACT.
That's what I'm talking about.

Carry on with the debate. I shouldn't have even posted in this thread.

Don't be silly. The government loves you and would never and has never done anything that didn't have your best interests at heart.
Katrina should have proven this to you.
ETA: As to your original question ....

When the public finds out, how will they truly react?
They'll react by getting another beer and sitting their fat, stupid, lazy arse on the couch to watch the next episode of Dancing With The Stars.
That's how they'll react.

Acoustic BOP's are unreliable and not standard.

Plus there's the whole fact that the rig gets, $500k per day rate and $500k would be the equivalent of us not buying a bag of cashews because we din't have 60 cents.
