GRAND ISLE, LA (WWL) - The Grand Isle Tarpon Rodeo has been canceled because of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, but rodeo organizers are planning a fundraising concert in its place.
The Island Aid Concert will be held July 23, 24 and 25 in Grand Isle. All benefits from the event will go to the Grand Isle Alive Promotion Fund to aid in rebuilding the fishing and tourism industry of Grand Isle.
Concert organizers have yet to announce the musician lineup.
Officials said the rodeo was canceled because of the "overwhelming" focus on the oil spill containment efforts.
Head to the Tarpon Rodeo website for more.

Lets see if big time acts are willing to help poor shrimpers and fisherman like they wanted to help poor black people after Katrina.

Only poor blacks were helped by Katrina benefits?
Surely you're not this fricking stupid... or does it anger you that blacks were helped?

Don't spin this like that. You know the media made a point after Katrina that most of the people on rooftops and at the Superdome were black. Most of the people evacuated to Houston and Dallas were black. Thats where the emphasis was put. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that as long as the same celebrities respond in kind after this disaster.

most rich whites/blacks either evacuated or had insurance...so the answer to your question is yes, with an exception of a few whites, most of the handouts went to poor blacks
I didnt benefit from any fricking Katrina benefit or fund raisers.

Why? Because you help out with one cause, you're now obligated to help out with every cause?
I gave money to breast cancer research. So now, I have to give to every cause or I'm disingenuous?

No but the media is throwing it out there that this is a larger disaster than Katrina. Doesn't it deserve a similar response from Hollywood? Why would Katrina deserve a huge telethon and not this?

Would you guys quit fighting about this? Katrina was over a long time ago. I lost my house and my parents lost their's. No one made us whole, I just gutted it out and turned the page. Let's just hope there is a good turn out and a good concert. Please drop the racist crap.

Loss of like no, but in other regards yes. Many fisherman have lost their way of life and culture. They were knocked back by Katrina but rebounded. This looks like the final knockout blow.
Not counting the potential loss of fisheries for decaded and wetland loss.
