Baseball assessment for final 3 series

These players I am about to list I consider "veterans" and either need to step up in the coming weeks or this team will just be another "team" that goes into the regionals with a rather quick exit.
Pitchers who need to step up
-Anthony Ranaudo (injury)*
-Daniel Bradshaw
-Austin Ross
Hitters who need to step up
-Tyler Hanover
-Blake Dean
-Grant Dozar
Couple of notes I'd like to make for a few players...
Alex Edward-Has really been a pleasent surprise to me lately. I didn't expect much out of him as a true freshman, however he's been out there hustling every oppurtunity he gets. Edward's making contact which is more that Dishon can say for himself to date.
Blake Dean-If you look on your calendar it now says May and it's about the time he turns his oven setting from "preheat" to "Broil".
Austin Nola and Tyler Hanover-Both very similar players at the plate. Not alot of power and both aren't going to steal that many bases. BOTH need to keep hitting over 300. and get on base more often for hitters such as Dean, Gibbs, and Gaudet to drive in runs.
Leon Landry-Love this kid to death, he's done everything you could ask for him this season and has been solid offensively thus far. The ONLY nack I have on him is his inability to get his hits when runners are on base. Everytime he gets a double or triple for some reason I think about Quinn Stewart hitting one of his numerous solo shots in meaningless situations. Landry need's to be moved up to the 2nd spot or 8 hole in my opinion.
Austin Ross-Needs to reassert himself. It's ALL mental for him right now. He doesn't truly believe in his out pitches right now and is relying too much on his fastball. I have nowhere near given up on Ross and know once he finds his "swagger" on the mound he can be a great 3 inning relief pitcher.
Mitch Mormann-His time to shine is now. If we ever needed a bullpen guy to come out and dominate it would be him. With his 6'6 frame and fastball, if he can focus on throwing to the mit and not trying to spot locate his arm could is dangerous.
My batting order if I could until Watkins gets back to health.

9.Edward R
Through this slump we need to remember there's no need for massive changes, just baby steps to fix the minor problems. This team has incredible talent and just needs to realize that working together they make up a machine that is difficult to slow down.

Gotta move Mahtook down in the order. He doesn't have the chance to clean the bases when nobody's on.

Watkins coming back would allow Mahtook to go back down in order and strengthen that part of lineup.
I still would take Dishon's ability to connect for a HR over Edwards right now.
Dean needs to use the whole field instead of pulling everything - he's not seeing anything in his zone right now and when he pulls everything he hits a lot of ground balls to 1st or 2nd if they don't find the holes

And Landry needs to avoid getting picked off when you have 1st and 3rd with only one out but yeah at least he's hitting and getting on base and not just swinging for the fences.

I'd be interested in seeing Dean's career percentage of HRs hit to Right, Center, and Left. It has to be EXTREMELY lop-sided to Right and Right Center.

Mahtook is a great lead off hitter so until Watkins comes back he should stay at lead off

Once Watkins gets back, if that happens, this lineup is going to look alot better, that kid produces. Having Mahtook hitting 2nd or 5th would really help out alot. I'm leaning towards 5th moving Gaudet and everyone else down a spot.

Leadoff hitter is only relevant in the 1st inning. Especially when the bottom of the order isn't getting on base.

its pretty relevant when you have a run producing leadoff hitter and the guys hitting in front of him (8 and 9 hitters) aren't getting on

We agree that Mahtook should move down. I'm simply saying, his talents are wasted with Hanover, Dozar, and the platoon in LF.
Leadoff HR's are great, but they don't win games.

I really would like to see Hanover work out of this slump hes in and the pitchers to keep the ball down in the zone. We are getting smashed because we are missing spots and leaving the ball up around the belt...I agree with Adam though, we aren't far off, some minor tweaking will get us right back on track.

It might look good on paper, but when 6 of 9 guys are not producing offensively, it won't matter. As a whole the bats need to get going.
Carl DuBois Stats from weekend:
– Matty Ott entered Sunday’s game having allowed eight earned runs this season. He allowed nine Sunday in his first college start.
– Ott’s ERA jumped from 2.43 to 4.59.
– Blake Dean and Micah Gibbs each drove in one run in the three-game series.
– The bottom of the order, Grant Dozar and Tyler Hanover, were a combined 2-for-20 with no RBIs. Hanover did not have a hit.
– Mikie Mahtook was 7-for-14 with three RBIs. Leon Landry was 7-for-12 with four RBIs. Each had a home run. That’s it as far as offensive performance.
– Designated hitter Matt Gaudet was 3-for-13 with six strikeouts and one RBI.

I hope they get it going, but I don't necessarily view this team as incredibly talented. The overall composition of the position players are clearly not as talented, and the pitching is nowhere near the 1-2 punch of Coleman and Ranaudo, with Ott closing which put LSU in favorable position to win 2/3 from most any high caliber opponent. I struggle to recall so many sequential ineffective pitching performances in the last 5-years or so, it seems to be one guy after another getting pounded on the mound.
I am still not sure how good the top teams in the SEC are this season, but UF was on fire this past weekend and deserved to win every game.

This team has "great" talent they just haven't utilized that talent continuously.

I really don't know what's been bothering Daniel. He hasn't looked comfortable on the mound at all this season. His 87 mph straight fastball hasn't fooled anybody espcially when he can't get his change and curve over for strikes.

His personality wouldn't lead me to that revelation. He hasn't really showed much emotion this year let alone ever.
