Well, duh, it is a chain. IMO, it is the best fast food or quasi best food burger out there. But you should be able to find a better burger in a decent food city. But five guys is good if you are out of town, they make a good, relatively cheap burger.
I wouldn't go to in and out over the better burger places in good food cities either. But again, very good for a chain place.

Owlie...I can't understand how you couldn't like them. I loved them. Would you rate them better than White Castle??

You're in H-Town, utilize the fact that you are one of the few states outside Colo, with a Smashburger.

i'm a burger slut.

tigre, I's say it's fairly similar, but juicier, fresher, has way more options. I don't know if LA has one, but SD and LV and H-town do, when you make your journey back to BR.
5 Guys runs good to bad depending upon the city and/or franchisee in terms of the burger, imho. I do like their greasy and salty fries. Really good hot dogs. And those free peanuts rock.

incredibly indescribably bland...for all those sacks of potatoes sitting around you'd think they could conjure up some fries remotely as good as what my mom used to make with fresh potatoes and some hot crisco in a skillet

ok honestly? so what did you like? certainly not the juiciness..becuase they are cooked until black and you can practically see through them they're so thin.
the over-the-top topppings and shite tend to hide the fact that you're paying for a tiny-arse overcooked piece of meat but lets not decieve ourselves here into thinking there's some kind of magic in that tiny-arse meat they use.
Try this: pull that sad burned piece of meat out and sample it without the 'fixins' and tell me you think thats something special.

I agree, I'd rather a Fatburger and Maui shake instead of 5G any day.

My mom and dad live off Spring Cypress Road. We go there from time to time when we visit them.

You must eat at some really bad 5 guys franchisees. I have only eaten at a couple of their original DC places, and a couple of their places in Georgia. Everytime the burger was cooked well (not well done), and the two patties were decently sized, juicy, and not burnt. I would not assume that 5 guys are great or even good everywhere, kind of telling that you would naturally assume the opposite.

Shreveport is getting one of these. Too bad I'll be leaving before it's running.
