Thoughts on crawfish

(1) I'll take boiled shrimp over crawfish any day.
(2) If someone includes hot dogs in a crawfish boil, all credibility is gone. Hot dogs? Really?
(3) I hate when people tell me that I have to try their mushrooms, sausage, etc... It all tastes like the boil. You can put a week old skunk carcass in that thing and it will all taste the same.
(4) The whole thing just seems tired.

i agree. also, anything more than the regular sausage/corn/onions/potatoes is too much crap for me.

i don't know why people would "force" stuff on you, but i disagree that a week old skunk carcass would taste the same... it would still taste like a week old skunk carcass.

food just seems tired? what other things seem tired to you? pasta? burgers? chicken?

I think I am, but I'm probably not the best judge of that. I'm just a little tired of the whole crawfish boil thing. I've been to about 30 in the last few weeks. To me, it all tastes the same.

1) I 100% prefer boiled crawfish over shrimp.
I wouldnt turn down boiled shrimp though.
You can drunk much more beer while boiling crawfish than shrimp. Who no love for crabs?
2) I could never seriously consider a hot dog in a boil. Although I dont mind some sausage.
3) I do not find that garlic tastes like boil at all.
4) Its a cultural event.. If it seems tired you must not care to be around people too much.

There is no end to how bad this take sucks.
Crawfish rule. Hot dogs are good, little smokies are better.
Move away from La. for a few years... it'll make you appreciate crawfish boils.

I hear you, and I get the social/cultural thing. I'd just like to see more crab or shrimp boils. Maybe an old fashioned pig roast.

I'd miss a lot about New Orleans if I moved, but I'm not sure crawfish would make that list. But you never know.

Well if you eat the same thing “30 times” in a “few weeks” then of course you’ll get tired of it. that doesn’t make it bad.

Didn't say it was "bad." I just said that, IMO, it's a little tired.

Shrimp has just been too expensive in the past few years to do a big boil (of course crawfish are expensive now but its not stopping people). Also has a lot to do when each season is. Crabs are really full in the July time frame but its really hot and people are on vacations a lot. Plus boiled crabs are good and all but a hassel to peel and eat. I know I do a lot of fish frys and bbq etc during the year manily just to get people together and drink beer. But crawfish are king of spring.

I really never experienced many boils in NO (outside of friends that ask me to cook them). Just doesnt seem to occur as often as outside the city. Of course my biggest gripe has always been the poor supply of crawfish to the NO area. I have been asked to do a lot of boils for friends that live there and I started bringing my own because everything there just seems very dirty.

I've been saying this for years.

This. I'd kill to be able to attend one this year. I'm just not likely going to have the opportunity.

I don't see how you could get tired of something you eat every day.

I was in the Seafood business for probably 25 of my 40 years. Now that I am out, I eat seafood nearly every day thanks to my proximity to Off the Hook. I work next door!
I love potatoes, corn, and yes sausage in my boil. I prefer boiled shrimp with my crawfish and I will eat them drinking Bud Light, Coors Lite or even Schaefer Light and have been known to toss down a Martini or two in the process.
I loved boiled crabs as well as boiled squid. You haven't lived till you tried it all.

One of my fondest memories of childhood was when my dad came in from the marshes working as a roughneck with a brown canvass sack of live crabs. He'd boil them on Saturday afternoon and we'd sit down at a small kitchen table. I was too young to peel them. He'd share one for one. This crab is yours and this crab is mine.
