I've had several really good platters from places in Houston, can't recall the name of most of them, I believe one was called Guadalajara (sp).. But my favorite authentic mexican restaurant is El Charro's in Ville Platte, amazing food and margaritas.

Describe what you mean by authentic. And don't be like my parents and just say that it has to be because Mexicans work there. LOL!

quote:Not really sure how to explain it but one example would be the quesadillas, at texmex places they are tortillas folded with a little meat and cheese and bam.. At El Charro, its a huge tortilla that is STUFFED with meat, onions, bell-peppers, shredded white chz and folded over, it requires a fork to be eaten.

Guadalajara Hacienda? It's kinda like La Carreta.
If we are talking truly authentic....Hugo's, various taqeurias-Arandas depending on which location, Laredo, La Ja was good before it closed, Bienvenidos in Ft. Stockton-best enchiladas outside of New Mexico, Guajillo's in San Antonio

Too many to name here in DFW (northern Mexico)
Abuelos, La Hacienda Ranch are both good.
Fonda San Miguel in Austin is greatness!
Joe T Garcia's in Downtown FW is overrated!
Most important thing for me initially is the chips and salsa. If the salsa sux I'm out
