So is Tulane really building a new stadium?

Tulane could easily be dropped out of Div I soon AND it is having serious financial problems in the A.D. There is no way in hell that they will get a new stadium.

As other posters have said, it is highly unlikely unless somebody donated 100 million to build a stadium. Even with new facilities they would have to produce a consistent winner for anyone to give a shite and even then they would be very lucky to put 30000 butts in a stadium.

Meh, the school was definitely hurting after Katrina, but the endowment has nearly doubled since then. It was in the $600 million range and is now in the $1 billion range. It's still not enough to sink nearly a hundred million into a football stadium for a program that loses money though

Where the current practice field is. Tear down the Wilson Center and incorporate the AD offices in the stadium.

As well as building a volleyball/basketball practice facility into the stadium design as well (the money for which has already been raised since their athletic review in 2003, as I understand it, somewhere in the wide range of 10-20 million).

The area in question is north of the Riley Center (aka student rec), east of the houses in Audubon Place, south of Turchin, and west of Ben Weiner Drive. The modular housing there is temporary and set to be closed when one of their dorms under construction is completed. The football practice field would obviously be incorporated into the stadium. The tennis courts would have to be relocated or eliminated, and the Wilson Athletic Center would have to be incorporated into the stadium design. But that's the (allegedly) proposed footprint (that has been officially denied by the University, twice now), and it could possibly work if they had the money.

Parking is a problem, although any new parking facility that would be built could be used for both that stadium, Turchin, the Riley Center, and their campus in general so the time to recoup cost from a garage could be significantly less than if it was built for a stadium alone.

And believe me, regardless of what Cowen and Gibson hall said, they did not cut the programs due to money constraints. It was an opportunity to push tulane more in the direction of the "small liberal arts hub" type of a school. My program, mechanical engineering, was operating in the black.

They'd still have the Superdome option for any crowds that might go over 32k or whatever, too.
