This weekend was one of those series that you staff was not 100% but you mustered up what you had and came away victorous. Some good and bad things I saw.

Good:
1.Matulis outing Sunday
2.Comeback against a top tier SEC team
3.Fielding

Bad:
1.Landry's homerun cuts (If you've really focused on him during his at bats, he's only using one hand. This needs to be fixed)
2.Ross and Bourgeios still giving up that big inning.
3.(batters)Pop up & strikeouts to ground ball outs ratio was a bit high to my liking this weekend.

Tenessee is definently not Arkansas, but has given LSU trouble is seems like every year recently. Hopefully the addition of Ranaudo into live action will generate some buzz on their first road trip.

Bad: situational hitting. Way too many Ks with less than 2 out and a guy on 3rd etc

Good: Rittiner's 3 scoreless innings in 1st SEC action

Fielding is huge. LSU can get by with substandard pitching until Ranuado gets healthy because the defense converts batted balls into outs. They say defense doesn't go cold, and though that's not entirely true, it is really nice to have a solid defense out there. This team does not give away extra defensive outs, which just kills a team.

This. LSU has a problem right now with leaving guys on base, and especially with less than one out. Not just Landry, but it seems a lot of guys are trying to hit HRs instead of going the other way or just get the ball IN PLAY.

I am sure this will be cleaned up, but it just bothers the hell out of me.

Pitching has been a pleasant surprise, with Anthony out. Aside from the one bad inning now and again, these guys did a great job against a very good hitting Ar-Kansas team.

I'll stick to my guns, this team will get to Omaha with or without Ranaudo, it won't win in Omaha without Ranaudo!

Of course not assuming any future injuries like Gibbs or Dean which would devastate the lineup

Gibbs

Is the key to the whole thing. A gold glove catcher who can bat from both sides of the plate. And is great at working with young pitchers.Which is something that is overlooked and underrated.

Gibbs is the most underrated player in college baseball, period.

He will be sorely missed next year.

hopefully weather doesnt play a factor in the tennessee series

someone mentioned yesterday that we could take the first 3 SEC series(both tenn and uga are bad this year) without having ranaudo fully healthy...thats big

Gibbs had a pretty subpar weekend.

IMO half of our lineup needs to work on their approach at the plater. Too many are going for it all.

Nola and Delatte look rather lost, especially.

good to see Gaudet make some solid contact this weekend. He started our big inning on Saturday. Hit a HR, missed 2 or 3 more HR's.

Landry has so much potential, I hope Javi works with him this week specifically on going the other way. Once we get into the thick of SEC play Landry better not be doing the same thing with his hands or his batting average is going to drastically plummet.

I've come to accept Leon for what he is.

I also agree with LE, delatte looks lost batting.

I dont mind Mahtook so much, he has a pretty good eye.

FWIW Landry is hitting .365, 2nd best on the team. Maybe we are just spoiled 2nd on the team in hits as well. And he's only K'ed 7 times.

As fast as Watkins is he should be hitting the ball on the ground. i saw him pop up to start off innings a couple times in this series..

he homered too, and hit a double in one of the games i was watching

he's going to K a lot, but he walks a lot too so it kind of evens out

Pitching is really coming along.

Would love to see Landry and Watkins hit the ball on the ground more. I know Trey went yard, but he's at his best using his legs. They have got to start producing more runs in run-scoring situations. Once you get a runner on 2nd w/ 0 outs, it should be a run every single time. We've let too many pitchers get out of innings w/ runners in scoring position and less than 2 outs. I am confident it will come as the season goes, but it needs to start being addressed.

Quality pitching, good defense, and timely hitting win games and ultimately championships. We have good defense, quality pitching is getting there week by week, and timely hitting will come as better swings and plate approaches do.

our best ball is ahead of us imo. we are certainly not as talented a team as last season, but i def. think we have the potential to make it to omaha if ranaudo comes back healthy. i was very encourage by the series this wknd. we fought back from adversity in game 2 and looked solid in game 3 as we won the series.
