Mormann seemed to have excellent control. I'm very excited to see him do well.

A couple of errors hurt us bad tonight. We gotta clean that up, especially at the hot sack.

I didn't think Delatte was that bad. He wasn't hitting, but he made most of the plays.

I hate how Mainieri mails it in when we get down 4+ runs. If he had gone to some of our front line relievers early, we could have easily won the game. It always works out that way.

somebody has to get out.we have a potent lineup and delatte is the outs.poor guy.its not his fault.he has made errors though.that may be our only weakness and its not that bad.

I wonder why PM didn't get Bourgeois out when it was 3-1? It seemed like at that point that guy couldn't close out counts well at all and there seemed to be no end at sight.

You are correct, he wasn't hitting, but he hasn't looked very good at third either.

Pretty standard. You do not throw front line bullpen guys when you have little to no shot at winning the game. You save them for when you have a lead or when the game is tight. That is why Mormann came in late.

No, it doesn't. It is always easy to look back at the final score and say this, but the other team would have handled the situation completely different if it was a 4 run game as opposed to a 7-8 run game. Pitchers are going to use up more of the plate, they are more likely to stay with the starter longer, they are more likely to go with second line guys out of the bullpen, etc.

That was a very frustrating game to watch. 4-5 hit batsmen, couple of walks, 4 errors-I know they only listed 2, but there were 4. LSU handed that game to Kansas. Kansas had 2 MAYBE 3 balls that were hit hard the entire night and none of them got out of the yard. No reason for them to put up 11 runs in that game whatsoever. The pitching wasn't stellar, but they weren't getting a lot of help behind them either. The 2 HORRIBLE throws from 3rd on a 12 hopper and a SAC BUNT along with Mahtook's drop on that line drive were the difference in the game.

Yeah, not sure how they didn't rule the Mahtook play an error. Not making the running catch is one thing, but then he kicked it 30 feet under the bullpen bench. It should have been at least a hit and error allowing him to move to second.

Dozar played tonight. Hit well, had 2 BAD throws on easy plays.

Dozar is probably kicking himself right now. Throwing from third to first is not easy, especially when you have some quick runners. Dozar can make that play 98 out of 100 times. It was just a bad day. If he plays tomorrow, you won't see him making those mistakes again. He tried to make up for it with his bat, but we weren't able to get those timely outs when runners were on. I say put Dozar in there again, he can do it. He knows what he needs to do to fix it.

This was going to happen eventually. It is only one game. We have been without our best player and we r still very good.

After thinking about the team last night, it is concerning that without Renaudo there is no pitcher this year or next year who will jump out at you as an ace on Friday night or Saturday starter. The 2 or 3 signees who opted for pro ball would have been that pitcher. Now coach will have to look at JC and hope to sign one.

Maybe one of the guys can step up and fill that role. They'll find someone.

LSU scores runs in the late innings. Down 5-1 in the 2nd inning isn't the time to let a game go against Kansas. Even with Ranaudo out, we still have Bertuccini, Bradshaw, Matulis, Moremann, Ott and supposedly Ross last night. Instead we go with Cotton, Garrett and LaSuzzo, giving up 6 more runs.

Bertuccini never pitches because Mainieri is always trying to save him. The guy has thrown more bullpen pitches than game pitches the last 2 years. He has thrown 3 garbage innings this year and last year Byrd, Alsup and Cain threw more innings than him (with worse numbers). We'll route KU these next 2 games and Mainieri will throw Bertuccini into the Sunday game in the 7th or 8th inning for an inning of work in a 15-1 game. Although, Grewe is going to have to come up with something different than a fastball down the pipe at 1-2 or 2-2 if we want to hold KU under 10 runs.

This is the key for him.

The biggest disappointment last nite was Bourgiose's performance. He's projected as of now to be our Fri nite starter & in 4 starts he's had two good ones, one so so & last nite's disaster. Arkansas is next Fri & he needs to step it up.
