Peter Sellers would have to be in the conversation
wide range of characters, slapstick to more subtle roles

unlike the previous two suggestions

cary grant( understated ,dry humor)
gene wilder( some VERY funny movies)

more current
vince vaughn has a good track record
paul Rudd
sean Michael Scott

just off the top of my head

Wow, that is def a tough one.... I don't think I could nail down to just one. Have to break it down by decade possibly.

Chase in the 70's - 80's was money (caddyshack, fletch)
Stiller in the late 90's-00's was good (Something about Mary, Zoolander, Dodgeball)

Leslie Nielson is not a bad choice either

Its very tough

Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder were brilliant together in a few films...I still love "Silver Streak".

Jim Carrey has a long line of funny stuff.

I think Will Ferrell is hillarious as well.
