Nola Grocery (next to Butcher) does that. So does Red Eye [during the day]. There definitely needs to be more though. My friend was looking into trying to get a permit to open something roadside, specifically as a late night thing, not sure how that's going though. He said Howlin' Wolf was opening up a walk-up place next door, don't know what's on the menu though (which is right by this place, incidentally).

my strong hunch is that there a zoning issue in NOLA as to the reason for the lack of food trucks in certain areas at certain times.

The lameness that is Lucky Dog strikes again. NOLA should have great truck food. But, alas politics raises its ugly head.

so the old story that Lucky Dog enjoys a city gov't allowed/endorsed monopoly in prime areas is basically true?

I think so. Crappy hot dogs win versus creative and good food.

I really don't understand that shite at all, its criminal. Although, the cabbies broke down and now we get rickshaws down there, so you never know.

just a small halfway decent grocery store is sorely needed, and it would make a fortune....and increase the convenience of the area a great deal.

Article says 3500, I would've thought it was way more than that. Shows what I know.

maybe i wait too long in between my trips to the grocery, but rarely do i have a small enough amount of groceries to walk home with.

the drive to that rouses really isnt bad. Or the Breaux Mart on Magazine. Or Wal Mart.

its labeled as different parts of the city, but in reality most people drive that far to get to their neighborhood groceries anyway

Yeah, but that defeats the purpose of it being a walkable urban area. That's the whole point, not its comparison to other parts of the city.

Yes to both.

In the actual magazine article in City Business someone (I think from the DDD) says people underestimate the number of residents because the zoning isn't residential or something like that. I totally agree that someone could stand to accommodate a need and make some money if they put a legit grocery store in there.

Its not a dealbreaker, but it would elevate the area to another level, like the article that guy posted.

NOLA has the purple truck, Sucre truck, and 2 taco trucks that are always on Frenchmen,...apparently there is another really great food truck in the works...thats all I know so far.
