LSU REVISES PROCEDURE FOR ASSIGNMENT OF NEW SEASON TICKETS, PARKING AND UPGRADES
Beginning with the 2010 LSU football season, the assignment of all new season tickets and new parking permits made available to the public and upgrade requests in all sports will be based solely on lifetime philanthropic giving to the University through the LSU Priority Point System, LSU has announced.

In the past, contributions associated with tickets were included in the calculation of Priority Points for new season tickets, parking permits and upgrades. With the new policy, only those donations not associated with tickets and parking, such as donations toward construction projects and scholarships, will figure in the distribution of new tickets and parking.

Also, in the event that the demand for new season tickets exceeds the supply, no more than four season tickets will be assigned per account annually.

This new system will be used effective with the March 31, 2010, Priority Point deadline.

This modification to the Priority Point System will have no effect on existing ticket assignments and parking locations. Also, the method for distribution of away game and post-season tickets will not change. Contributions associated with tickets, such as Tradition Fund payments, will still count toward the point system for away game and post-season tickets.

The LSU Priority Point System is a system developed for the distribution and allocation of tickets and parking passes based on lifetime giving to LSU. The Tiger Athletic Foundation is tasked with maintaining the Priority Point System for LSU. For more information on the Priority Point System please go to www.lsutaf.org and go to Priority Points, or call TAF at (225) 578-4823 and ask to speak to a TAF Development staff member.

Whew, that was close. Doesn't affect me. I've already got my season tickets and it doesn't affect away games and postseason.

looks like a pretty damn big improvement to me....previously, scalpers got a hell of an advantage in new tickets and upgrades due to the priority points that they earned in buying tickets....simply, they got points for fees paid by those who ultimately bought their tickets....as a result, they got more points, and got more tickets, and got more points and got more tickets, etc.....theoretically, under that system all tickets would eventually end up in scalper's hands....

Sorry, but that is just a mistaken belief. This new system will ensure that only large corporate donors get ANY new tickets and passes. I've had season tickets and had several other donations that counted for over 14 years and NEVER got anything from my 4 season tickets and the other contributions. This BS believ that "scalpers" are racking up points is just plain dumb and wrong. LSU is greedy, period.

Or the contrary. But whatever.

Well it's true. Not "scalpers" but Joe Blow LSU fan who only truly uses 4 tickets, has 16 in his name, sells the other 12 for profit to pay for his 4 and then in turn reaps the benefits of the tradition fund moving further up and requesting more tickets.

If you go to TAF you can see your new philanthropic ranking as well as old priority point ranking. I improved a bit, so I guess I should be happy.

Essentially take your old priority point ranking reduce points by each of the following:
1) points associated with tradition fund payments
2) points associated with TAF controlled seat donations
3) bonus points (3 per year) for giving in past years if your only giving was related to 1 or 2. (For example, my 'loyalty points' went down by 9 in the philanthropic calculation because they used to give loyalty points just for tradition fund giving, and in 3 years I only had tradition fund giving, and in the new ranking any giving for tickets is wiped off along with the concomitant bonus points associated with that giving.}

One thing I do like is they will give points for donating to the school, not just the athletic department. Hopefully that will increase the giving to the actual learning institution

So we can give to LSU's general scholarship fund and get priority points? Do you know if it's 1/$1000 or 2/$1000? I thought in the past it had to be through TAF's philanthropic drives.

As long as the market will pay for it, they will continue to raise the prices of donations and tickets. Everyone has a breaking point, at that point I will give them up, stay home, watch them on TV and spend my money elsewhere and let someone else fork out the money. LSU needs the fan base, I don't need LSU tickets. Hopefully, I will be able to keep them but I've had to cut back vacation spending already because of LSU tickets.

Yea, all the Joe Blows out here pay $10,000 a year for 14 tickets up front so they can scalp them. Bullcrap! Its just not the reality. I'm like the last poster, I've had 4 and use them or give them to clients or friends on occsion and sometimes sell, but if the cost keeps going up, I won't keep them. Now, if I dump them, who the HELL do you think they'll go to!? My 4 endzone seats will get swapped to TAF for some upperdecks to LSU to "generously sell" to some schmuck drooling for tickets in "his name" It's a house of cards that will collapse when the recent winning is forgotten and we have another dry stretch. LSU is going to reap what it sows and have a dead and lifeless stadium like the pros generally have.

What in the hell does this even mean? If you're tickets aren't in a TAF controlled section currently, they won't be magically "moved" to TAF after you give them up. And if somebody on the waiting list has the money to buy your endzone seats, LSU will gladly sell them. I'm not following your anger on this one.

I am not sure most people understand that this is not really all that bad a move.

I don't think so...I, like you, have 4 tickets that I use for myself and my friends....I pay the minimum TAF membership fee each year and usually give $25 or $50 to the tradition fund or something like that each year....my previous priority point ranking was about 7,000....under the new system, my rank is around 3,500....

since I pay roughly the same fees for tickets and parking as everyone else, that tells me that approximately 3,500 people were ranked higher than me simply because they have more tickets than I do... IMO, most anyone who has more than 4 tickets is either selling them or a polygamist...

You guys have no clue. LSU swaps the returned "in the bowl" tickets for upper deck tickets with TAF b/c TAF can charge more for the lower bowl and suckers still buy the upper decks. This is a known fact. It is hand in hand with why TAF and LSU wanted the Legislature to INCREASE the percentage of tickets TAF could have in the entire stadium. If it were up LSU and TAF, TAF would handle ALL tickets in the stadium, meaning all ticket costs would jump much higher.

What it does is allow someone who has never had tickets and never been on the waiting list to fork over a bunch of money and pass everyone on the waiting list to get new tickets.

Look at it this way, it could be genius. With schools like Alabama using a lot of their football donor money to pay Saban the IRS was bound to get involved. With LSU changing the donation policy and accepting donations to LSU the school instead of LSU the football program, the IRS should be less likely to get involved and just may keep the donations tax deductable.
