I wish the Academy would have recognized what a special cinematic achievement Benjamin Button was and awarded it with Best Picture. I saw Slumdog and it was just a decent low budget movie with bad acting. Slumdog is way over-hyped. It was decent at best
but if you hold it up against Benjamin Button, there is no way in my opinion that Slumdog should have won Best Picture. Benjamin Button is movie-making at its very finest. From the story, to the photography, to the acting; it’s just an incredible movie. It captures New Orleans better than any other movie I've seen.

what are your thoughts on TCCOBB?

Somehow, I've still never seen TCCoBB.

Any movie that makes Brad Pitt actually look better as the movie progresses has got my vote.

Btw....the short story that inspired the movie isn't so bad either. Worth reading.

I didn't like the Best Picture nominees at all last year. The Reader and Slumdog sucked. Slumdog was nothing more than an average film with a heartwarming story. Best picture? Not even close.

And how was Leo NOT nominated for Best Actor last year in Revolutionary Road?

I'm still trying to figure out how District 9 got a nomination this year over Invictus.

I thought Benjamin Button was okay, but:

1) it was way too dragged out. It could have been 45 minutes shorter.

2) it tried way to hard to be Forrest Gump

3) The attraction between an Old (looking) pitt and the girl when she was young was border line creepy

4) Katrina event was forced and misplaced.

I thought Benjamin Button verged on horrible. it was extremely boring.. novel idea, but they could have written a better script.

slumdog millionaire was way overrated as well.. it was decent but certainly not best picture material.

btw my pick for best picture last year was The Wrestler.. and Mickey Rourke probably should have won best actor.

I was really disappointed with Benjamin Button. If Forrest Gump were Goodfellas, then Benjamin Button was Casino. In essence, it was a thematic and structural rip off of Forrest Gump and overall a weaker effort (of course, both were written by the same person). David Fincher is capable of much better.

Benjamin Button was a crappy movie. It was a horrible idea and an even worse movie.

I really enjoyed TCCoBB, I thought that the cast was great and Brad Pitt was the perfect choice for the lead.

Wow. Surprised the haters are out in such big numbers. I thought most people loved this one and it brings out a fervor in some people only matched by the Little Miss Sunshine fanatics.

I agree with most of the haters. I really wanted to like this flick. Thought it had greatness written all over it, until i saw it and it bored me to death.

I like slow brooding epics and period pieces, but somehow this one just bored me to death.

I do plan to watch it again someday. Maybe I was just not in the right frame of mind at the time.

Yeah, the movie felt entirely too long. Fincher could have easily cut it down by an hour. Most of the hospital scenes just felt pointless to me.

Probably because it was a much better film in every aspect.

Invictus was extremely disappointing. Talk about boring.

And Ben Button was nowhere near as good as Slumdog, for the reasons others have already stated.

I liked it. A good bit actually.
But I didn't mind slumdog winning though. You say it had terrible acting but the child acting was some of the best I've ever seen.

I enjoyed both movies, but Slumdog definitely deserved Best Picture over Benjamin Button.

Yeah, I don't understand the District 9 hate. That was a terrific movie, probably the best I've seen during this past year.
