Cowboys going to go after Jahri and sharper?

Two people on saintsreport saying they're hearing as much. Just started going there again so don't know if the posters are really worth a shite, but if there's anything to it, the saints better just franchise jahri. They need ol help, have late picks, jones has deep pockets and is the type to use a poison pill. To get a pair of firsts, they'll need to use maybe each of their first 4 picks plus give jahri a shitload of money.

Dont the cowboys fall under the same freee agent rules as the saints do because they were one of the last 8. This would mean they would have to lose someone of the same salary to be able to sign anyone.

i was just thinking the same thing. isn't it the final 8 teams?

They can spend whatever they want on one UFA. Evans is a restricted free agent. There are no restrictions on RFAs. If we wanted to sign Dumervil, Thomas Davis, Ray Edwards, or other high profile RFAs, we could so long as we gave up the draft picks and money to do it. Of course we'd be fricked when the cap came back if we did.

Also we will keep sharper because what other saftey will we get that is worth anything for 1 mill.
Posted on 2/24/10 at 10:38 pm to Dizz
Huh? Sharper is going to cost more than $1m.
Posted on 2/24/10 at 10:43 pm to THRILLHO
You are right my bad. I thought we couldn't resign anyone unless we lost someone and then we could only resign someone at that same pay level. Meaning Sharper makes 1 mill we could only get a safety for 1 mill if he left.

isn't it the final 8 teams?

quote:
The rule will restrict the final eight teams in the playoffs from signing free agents. The final four teams shall not be permitted to negotiate and sign any unrestricted free agent to a player contract except for players who acquired their status by being cut or were on the final four team when their contract expired. Playoff teams five thru eight get a break to sign one player with a salary of $4,925,000 or more and any number of players with a first-year salary of no more than $3,275,000 and an annual increase of no more than 30 percent in the following years. There is a mechanism to permit the final eight teams to sign an unrestricted free agent for each one of their own unrestricted free agents who sign with another club as long as they don't spend more than what their own lost player received from his new club.

The Saints hold ALL the leverage when it comes to Evans. They get to match any offer someone might offer him(which they almost definately would do). And if someone offers him insane money, they get a 1st and 3rd rounder

Franchise tag is overboard for Evans. We need a long term deal anyway. Nothing I've read indicates Evans wants out of NO. If our offer is close to what Dallas offers, say something like Leonard Davis' deal, then he probably won't even bother to sign the Dallas deal and not force us to have to match a poison pill.

If they are going to make a long term deal this season, there's no real loss in franchising him, though.

pisses off the player in question, unless the player is named Darren Sharper.

hopefully we don't even get to that, he is going to get paid. I hope we just take care of it and move on to the next player.

I will laugh my arse off if the Cowboys break the bank for Sharper and we see him taking his usual shitty angles on plays where Pierre or Meach get to the second level and they just break one off on him.

Evan is not going anywhere. Saints would match any offer from any team. Evans is regarded as the best guard in the game, you don't let him walk away

I don't think he is going anywhere, but just to put it out there, would be fairly easy to put a poison pill in it that would make it hard for the Saints to match.
Example, say Evans plays more than 5 games in the state of Louisiana in any single season of the contract and the entire contract becomes guaranteed.
Like I said though don't think it gets that far

beacuse he is a restricted free agent we can match any offer and if he does leave we get a 1st adn 3rd that is without having to franchise him

That's a pretty low 1st and 3rd though. I can see why Dallas would be interested.
