Im staying at the Sheraton on Canal for the weekend. I was wondering if you guy's had any suggestions for a casual place to go eat lunch (in walking distance). Im thinking seafood, and I heard Felix's has some damn good oysters. Any place you recommend?

Palace Cafe - 2 blocks
Charbroiled oysters @ Dragos 3 blocks
Johnnys Po-boy 4 blocks
Central Grocery - 6 blocks
Rio Mar - 8 blocks
Remoulade's on Bourbon > Felixes for oysters
But I am from Baton Rouge so I don't know shite

I am by far not an expert on lunch in the Quarter but the oysters and food at Felix's is incredible. I will be there in three weeks and am really looking forward to eating there again. I couldnt stop eating the oysters. Best of luck wherever you decide.

okay, i'm really confused about mother's...i've heard it's great from the same number of people from whom i've heard it sucks...what's the deal folks?

Everytime I'm in NO, I make sure I find time to get a lunch at Napoleon House. Try to sit in the courtyard, it's the best.

Dont go there imo. Overrated tourist trap. They do have some of the best bloody marys in town and the food is good but its not worth the $ they charge nor the wait.
If you want to eat in the quarter, no list is complete without mentioning Stanleys...place is unreal good.

It sucks.
You know how the F&D board is...a place is either total garbage or it's orgasmically good. There's rarely an in-between.
To be honest, Mother's is good, but I compare it to a movie that all of your friends have told is the greatest movie ever. Your expectations are so high that it's hard to live up to them. Mother's is a little pricey because it's so popular, and you will no doubt wait a while in line. The food is good, but after the wait in line, the price, and expectations being so high, it's not like your "Ferdi" comes out with fireworks or anything. If you've never been, or the line is short (unlikely) check it out, but there are better bargains/meals to be had. Personally, I avoid most places in the Quarter for that reason.
Verti Mart has become my favorite, but it's probably a little farther than you want to walk. Palace Cafe is really good. Also try to check out Cafe Maspero on Decatur. There will probably be a line, but as far as bang for your buck, and a quality sandwich, I think Cafe Maspero is the way to go.

Thanks for the responses. I will be doing a little research online with the places you suggested!

Casual, reasonably priced, and good food:
Napoleon House (cash only)
Cafe Maspero (cash only)
Johnny's Poboys (been awhile since I've been, don't remember if they are cash only but seems like they might be)
If you want oysters, just go to Luke 3-6 for happy hour and 25 cent oysters.
I like Deanie's for fried seafood in the Quarter, but I rarely eat fried seafood in the Quarter so I haven't been in probably a year and a half.

I reviewed MiLa yesterday and didn't kiss its hiney. For the most part, it was superb, so I was honest.

I've reviewed a ton of places and rarely are my reviews drastically one way. I tend to outline the good and the bad about every restaurant. And honestly, I just can't find anything good to say about Mother's.

They suck. Unless you like being yelled at while waiting for 45 minutes to pay for overpriced poboys.

Entrees about 18-30, higher for some specials. I have had solid fish dishes just about everytime I have been. Never had anything that wasn't atleast good. Most things I have had have been very good. If you have been to Irene's it is almost a mirror imagine in terms of food.
