Can You Say Bye Bye Atlanta Thrashers?

The franchise is trading all of its star players, Kovi is gone.. now they traded away lehtonen. Is this a sign that the thrashers are headed elsewhere? We need a team in Portland!

It's not looking good here in Atlanta that's for sure! I hope they don't because I love going to the games, but I think I'm the only one in the city
I was actually glad to see Lehtonen gone. He was a draft bust.

The NHL needs to get rid of a bunch of teams.
Also, I don't think Quebec is a city. It would be similar to saying the NHL needs a team in Texas.

I think he really has a lot of potential, he just needs to get the chance to play behind a real defense (not that that opportunity presents itself in Dallas)

Very good point. Atlanta defenses have been awful

You think wrong.
I think they are talking about moving the team to Hamilton, Ontario.

If you want to discuss cities that really got screwed by storied teams moving, you have to bring all those mid-sized Canadian cities into the discussion that all got roayl screw jobs, during that silly fad of moving NHL teams to Sun Belt cities.
How short-sighted could a professional sports league possibly be?

Part of the problem is not only their defense but that Kovy was getting 20-25 minutes a game and could not have cared less about playing any d.

Montreal?
There is already a team in Montreal - the Canadiens. The capital city of the province of Quebec is Quebec City. The NHL had a team in Quebec City (the Quebec Nordiques). They moved to Denver to become the Avalanche after the 1995 NHL playoffs.
Interesting bit of trivia, the Nordiques had the #1 pick in the 1991 draft and used it to select Eric Lindros. Lindros refused to sign, and the team refused to trade him. However, the league stepped in and forced the trade, with Lindros eventually going to the Flyers.

I think the Thrashers would do ok if they would just get rid of the idiot GM who doesn't seem to knwo shite about how to run a team. Of course how would we expect an ownership group that seems to be happy to fight over who really owns the teams to care about having competent leadership?
The worst thing that could happen to the Thrashers happened when the Gladiators moved in to Gwinnett and started to be successful. A winning team, cheaper tickets, and a location that the majority white fans of hockey don't feel threatened to go to and leave after dark.

The NHL needs to totally move away from all of the SunBelt teams, minus Dallas. Does anybody in Miami, Tampa, Atlanta or Phoenix really care about Hockey? The Canadien teams who regularly sold out their games got screwed by the NHL. Give Quebec, Winnepeg, Salt Lake City, Seattle, Portland or Hamilton a shot. Hockey is actually relevant in those cities.

Basically I was telling him there is already a team in Quebec. I didn't know he was talking about Quebec City.

How is the attendance for the Thrashers? Hell sometimes the Hawks cant even get a good crowd. Atlanta is a bad sports town outside the Braves and mostly black right? You would think no one cares about them?

Move them to Houston. Half of the city is made up of Yankees.

It was also when the Canadian dollar wasn't worth squat compared to the US dollar. Whoops.
How Bettman is still the commish is amazing to me. I can understand the Nords moving (the Habs killed their fanbase), but Winnipeg? Hell, Hartford? I miss the Whale.

The black thing is a overstatement. I dont live in Atlanta but I've been there plenty of times to realize it's not mostly black. The city itself is 60% black (population is only one tenth of the metro population). Outside the city it's most white if you count the entire metro area. Sure there are parts of the metro that are mostly black, but isn't that how it is most everywhere? I was raised in Philly and I can attest to this statement.
I now live outside Portland, Oregon. Not many blacks here though.
