I have no problem with Manning, but he sounds like a real douche:

quote:

Duke coach David Cutcliffe is out on a recruiting trip, but he'll take a quick break because he loves to tell this story. It's the fall of 1994, and Manning is a freshman who wants to know everything. He arrives on the University of Tennessee campus two months early to get a jump on the competition. He's already filled a notebook from front to back with scribblings from his private film study, and has about 50 questions on the first page that he's ready to ask Cutcliffe, the offensive coordinator at the time in Knoxville, Tenn.

So quarterbacks meet on Wednesday nights, and Cutcliffe requires them to come 10 minutes early, and of course Peyton is there, shooting the breeze with his coach. An hour passes, and Cutcliffe wonders why Manning's competition -- Branndon Stewart -- hasn't showed up.

Cutcliffe walks outside and notices that all the doors he's propped open are shut.

"There's Branndon out there, beating the door with his fist," Cutcliffe says. "Peyton had closed every door behind him to make him late. He comes walking back in and had a smirk on his face.

"That's what you call competing."

Not real inconsistent with even his current personality.

You can perhaps quibble with whether or not that = douche, though.

an 18 year old is old enough to be a douche. That story seems to suggest that Manning is one example of this.

He's a good guy I'm sure, but I can't imagine that story endeared him to teammates as a Freshman at Tennessee.

Was this before or after he was harassing personal trainers?

I respect Archie, Eli, and yes, even Peyton...but damn this constant masturbation at the Manning altar is getting old.

That was during the season, I believe. And was in his 3rd or 4th season, if I'm not mistaken.

True, but I think we've all done something when we were 18 that would seem douchey, the only difference is nobody cares about us.

Maybe he was just being courteous and closing the doors behind him

I bet he is that guy that grunts loud at the gym, and probably wears those muscle shirts that show off his nipples. What a douche!!

If you consider that "douchey", then I recommend that you avoid going to business school or (especially) law school.

Just sayin'.

Doesn't change the fact that it was a dickhead move. Douchey shite happens every day in the business world...doesn't make it any less douchey.

Just sayin'.

That attitude seems to translate inot a relatively successful pro quarterback. Kind like something you would see Bellicheck or Saban do. Competition is by it's very nature adversarial. Different people take it to different extremes.

I think closing the doors is kinds funny. Not something that you could get away with more than one time though, kind of like a prank.

It's funny if you are not the guy he did it to...his rival in said situation. If the tables were turned I am sure dickhead would have cried "foul" given what we know about him.
