Second chance for Jamarcus Russell?

With the raiders hiring Hugh Jackson as OC and reportedly assigning him to work with jamarcus, is there still a chance he can become a successful NFL qb?
Hopefully he spends the summer in the film room, works on drills, comes into camp in good shape and we see a renewed JR next season.

Hope so. JR deserves the best from LSU fans regardless if they think so or not.
But he needs to work hard and improve himself, just like anyone else.

I think he definitely gets another shot. The Raiders have entirely too much money invested in him to let him sit on the bench.

I don't know if he gets a second chance or not but he does not deserve one. He basically stole $30 million ( or whatever his rediculous gaurantee was ) from the Raiders with poor work ethic . He took the money and ran. I would run him off.

The answer to the question is NO!

Unfortunately JR has so much money I don't see him motivated enough to compete at the level he needs to be at.

I hope he gets another chance. But if he shows up in a few months to camp looking like he has been hitting the Golden Corral circuit instead of the gym, I will pretty much call his career done.

Not all his fault, but he's a huge part of the reason.

If anyone thinks he can perform the mental tasks which are going to be and were evident in the NFC game by the QBs, they are smoking some strong weed. Jamarcus has all of the necessary physical attributes, but the work ethic is just not there, and will never be there. Without the proper work ethic, he will never attain the mental capabilities to run a winning NFL team. Is he smart enough? Who knows until he has given full effort. Case closed.

I haven't seen footage of him in a while, but didn't he end up with a mohawk and a few extra pounds?
I am of the opinion he got a taste of the high life and all of the sudden football wasn't as much of a priority as living the high life and making fashion statements. But, that's just me.
I still wish him well though, after all, he is a Tiger. I just wish he would continue to represent the school that helped get him that big pay check by doing the job he is paid to do.
Some times it is interesting to see what the big money does to these athletes, and sometimes it is just down right sad.

That's up to JR and always has been.

I think Russell’s pro failures can be equally blamed on a terrible work ethic and terrible coaching. It’s made the internet rounds, but Russell’s numbers were almost statistically the same as Mark Sanchez’s rookie year. Instead of trying to build on that, the Raiders, like all bad organizations, harped on what the guy COULDN’T do instead of what he could do. They fed his worst instincts and seemingly put no effort into improving their investment.
It’s not just Russell who has floundered on the Raiders. Pretty much all of their first round picks have been tremendous busts. It may be their scouting department (I mean, Heyward-Bey?), but it is also very likely their coaching staff. If so many players do not improve, that points to a bad staff. And we already know their sheer level of disfunction.
Considering how much money the Raiders have invested in guaranteed money, they’d be foolish not to give him a second chance with a new staff. If Russell does not take advantage of this second chance and doesn’t improve his work habits… well, then it’s on Russell entirely.

Of course... the guy simply has too many skills to not have a shot at being a successfull QB.
But...he's going to have to take responsibility for his career and actually WANT to make it. The days of him simply being physically superior to everyone around him and that being enough are long gone. His agent, presumably a guy who would like to continue to get 10% of what Russell is capable of, should do some serious talking to him about hooking up with a few vertern guys who really do hard off season training...
But yeah, sure he can make it.
