both are in BCS conferences

both are 4th options for in-state recruits (UT, OU, TAMU/LSU in TX...UF/UM/FSU in Fla) in awesome recruiting state

both just lost the most successful coach in school history for improper disciplinary procedures

I would go with USF. TT is in the middle of nowhere. Also, the Big East is much easier to win in!

If it would've been me, I would've taken the USF job over the TT job. Tampa is a lot nicer than Lubbock. Aside from that, the Big East will be kind of an open playing field over the next few years as well with Brian Kelly gone.

The Big 12 South is just stiff!

USF. The Big East is up for the taking right now. Texas Tech most years will always be behind either OU/Texas or both. Okie State is also currently in the mix in Big 12 South.

I've always heard Tampa is a complete shite-hole. At least Lubbock is an actual college town. And the tradition of the Big 12 is still far superior to that of the Big East(even if the football currently isn't). And this might sound silly, but I don't love USF's mascot or colors, and their tradition is non-existent. As stacked as Florida is, I still think the right coach could recruit better to Tech. I think Tubby made the better choice.

USF because of location. Tech being in Texas almost doesn't count because of how far removed it is from the rest of the state. Lubbock is at least six hours away from ever metro area in Texas - eight from Houston which is the most talent rich metro area.

Even after Tech's awesome '08 season when they got the most exposure they've ever had and they had a dynamic player and great NFL prospect, they finished several spots outside of the top 25 in recruiting.

USF has a better immediate area to recruit. And when it comes to out of state talent, Tampa is much more desirable than Lubbock.

An extremely high rate of STDs per capita doesn't sell

USF. Almost have to believe Tubs was thinking...better take anything at this point or I may never coach again.

yeah it detracts from the hot chicks

USF is like TTech...a school for in-state kids who weren't smart enough for the better schools, so it has a fair share of hot chicks

Lubbock makes Tampa look like a Caribbean resort town. There's no comparison. Lubbock isn't even located next any other desirable towns or beach or anything like that. They just recently allowed liquor stores to open within the city. Lubbock as a whole has a shitty nightlife.

And it's not really a college town. It's bigger than that. The city doesn't revolve around Tech.

Tech's tradition is pretty much nonexistent and they have been around longer. Historically, they are towards the bottom of the Big 12.

USF has risen quickly and Tech has remained mediocre for good reasons.

I think it's like 3 from Dallas. Not that your point is not valid though.

USF. A good coach could make that school or break it ala Bobby Bowden at FSU, and make it his. T. Tech has a ceiling and always will.

Don't forget usf is YOUNG football wise. They are still developing everything. I've long thought it was a future premium job...

Lubbock = Desolate Prairie of West Texas Panhandle

Tampa = Florida Gulf Coast

Hmmmmm..... shite hole or not, Tampa beats the hell out of Lubbock any day of the damn week in my book.
