Time to trade him

quote:

In five games since returning from injury, he's averaging 15.8 points, 14 assists, 4.8 boards and 3.4 steals.

Having noted all of that, this next sentence might seem a little misplaced: Chris Paul is part of the problem.

I say that because I don't see him buying into what Jeff Bower and Tim Floyd are trying to do with the offense. We saw some nice progress made towards more ball movement and less pounding when Paul was out injured, and I assumed that would continue when CP came back. Unfortunately though, I'm seeing the offense regress into Paul dribbling most of the shot clock away before launching a contested jumper while his teammates stand and watch.

Of course, there's no denying Paul's brilliance, and with the way he's been shooting this season those contested jumpers aren't necessarily bad shots. The problem is that the Hornets can only go so far with Chris Paul dominating the basketball. For the Hornets to be a real threat offensively, they need everybody involved, multiple passes on each trip down the floor, not just one guy prodding the defense for 15-20 seconds. That requires too much of Paul and too little of everyone else, including the guys playing defense.

Chris has been responding to the team's poor performance by playing hard, playing hurt, and getting on his teammates even more so than usual. I'm thinking what would serve him and the team better is to realize that his Herculean efforts aren't adding up to more W's. A smarter approach is needed.

I don't know. I haven't watched them since he came back. Henry Abbott didn't really give an opinion one way or the other, just posted the bloggers comments

who wrote this?

and how does one dribble and shoot a contested jumper at the end of the shot clock, yet average 14 assists per game?

this guy doesnt realize that even Collison was takin a lot of shots when CP3 was out. like 12-15 a night.

Paul is our best scorer. I have no problem with him trying to score when needed. After all he is like a 50% career shooter from the field....that doesnt exactly hurt the team. And this year he is shooting 53 fricking percent. 53%!!!!!!! He's 6 foot nothing

Have they ever thought that CP3 needs a few games to adjust??? The guy isnt a retard, he'll be fine in this offense.

im surprised sometimes at the shite even ESPN prints.

That's one of the two Hornets blogs I read, and I think he's spot on. FWIW he didn't say trade him, he just said the offense gets stagnant when he's on the floor, and they need to go back to being active off the ball. If you've watched the last two games, you would be insane not to agree. It's not his "fault," but I don't have an explanation for why people stop moving off the ball when he's in the game.

He does have a point.

While the offense wasn't necessarily "better" with him out, it was certainly more fluid.

That being said, I don't really care as long as Bower's gone next year and CP isn't.

Superstars are never "part of the problem."

Coaches who don't build their teams around them are.

I think the point you're missing is that everyone else was fine and adjusted to the new offensive scheme after two or three games under Bower.

Chris Paul seems content on running Scott's offense of him dribbling for 20 seconds and taking a tough shot or playing a two man game with DWest.

The problem is that we don't win that way too often. We started playing much better when everybody touched the ball and the open man took the shot. Everyone was active, everyone was moving, and we were shooting wide open jumpers and layups.

Now? We shoot contested jumpers. No one goes to the goal regularly. Chris Paul has even settled for his jumper.

That being said, if he would just buy in to the mentality of the team a little more and trust his teammates, we might win some games. But he doesn't, so he decides to hold on to the ball himself until he can give them an open shot that they couldn't get for themselves.

But yea, if Chris Paul is part of your problem, you don't really have a problem.

He does have a decent point, but not many people will be for keeping Bower and trading cp

but 41% from the field and only 23% in 3's since he came back.

is it just rust, or is it really a sit around and watch CP3 offense right now?

The Hornets were playing better by Collison's 8th game sans Paul than they have been since CP3 returned.

I think that's an abberation but I agree with the gist of the author's sentiments.

Assists are the most overrated stat in the NBA.

It is the easiest stat to inflate due big time players holding on to the ball and passing to a teammate as the time clock expires forcing a shot.
