Milk: Hey I'm pro-gay rights and anything that has to do with gay rights is automatically an incredible movie.

People who like Milk in the film community I have found to be pretentious assholes, like Sean Penn.

Penn did a terrific acting job. For every movie like Milk, there are plenty more that you've never heard of.

Slumdog, while good, is not as incredible as everyone makes it out to be, and next to Crash and Chicago, it would probably be my least favorite of the Best Picture winners this decade.

Sean Penn is a pompous prick who thinks is way smarter than anyone else who has ever lived. He's a hell of an actor, but I think the only film of his I have ever enjoyed is Fast Times at Ridgemont High (although I haven't seen Mystic River yet, and I have heard good things about it).

Crash wins the award for this.

Stick over the top contrived racism to show how horrible we are as a society.

Lazy arse writing that could have been a much better movie if any of the freaking scenes had been remotely realistic.

But...Hollywood liberals just ate that shite up.

Milk and Babel were both very good movies in my opinion.

I agree that Crash fits this label pretty well.

I thought Slumdog was awesome.

But I think it is b/c of the awesome dance scene

I saw slumdog. It fell just short for me.

My hatred for the brother overtook the movie for me. His "redemption" felt shallow. The protagonist was far too good, imho.

I loved Slumdog. I went in thinking it would be an overrated shite fest, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Shakespeare In Love

I fricking HATE that movie. The only people I know that like it are "film aficionados", which are coincidentally some of the biggest douchebags I know. I don't think they even like it, but just pretend to so they can look cooler (to the film crowd).

This!

I went in ready to be disappointed & I was pleasantly suprised at how much I liked the movie. That year I had high expectations for Revolutionary Road---that was not a good movie (great acting, did not care for the movie)

ANY movie that was made during the French New Wave era. Breathless by Jean Luc Godard being the most referenced in this case.

P.S. I do like the FNW even if I'm bashing its snobby fanbase

I actually liked Crash, but that was probably because I took the racial stuff as being pretty hilarious.
