1958- Undisputed

2003- Undisputed. USC/Pac-10 signed on to use the BCS system to decide the National Champs. Finished #1 in the BCS. We won, they didn't, the end.

2007- Undisputed. Finished first in the BCS.

All the universities including USC agreed to the BCS formula and we were awarded the Crystal Ball. The only true National Championship. (USC won an AP championship in '03).

There, but for the grace of God, (and a midnight loss by Hawaii was it?) go us.

I find this question to be ironic coming from a Georgia Tech fan.

GT claimed national titles: 4 (1917, 1928, 1952, 1990)

"No. But an undefeated NC team is more legit than one with one or two losses."

One has nothing to do with the other.Because the Yankees lost over 50 games this year, does that make their World Championship less legit.

Enjoy your Reconstruction era titles. I myself take great pleasure in LSU's 1908 NC. It's my favorite.

If LSU was the type of school to pull that goofy shite, they could claim 1908. 10-0.

I'm okay that we don't. Modern era didn't start until around the mid 30s.

Silly.

An undefeated season is still (thankfully, in my opinion) the gold standard in college football. Doesn't mean our last two NCs don't count.

If you want to go back that far and count retroactively awarded championships, then LSU has 7.

It seems they always have a loss on their resume and can never win the title emphatically.

If record is all-important, then lets declare all undefeated teams in a given year as co-champions since a max of only two get to play each other for that title and several more are just as "legitimate".

Or we can let informed people decide who the best teams are based on the "body of work" and protect the legitimacy of the MNC based on something MORE objective than record alone; which is what we do now, and why LSU's wins in 03 and 07 are just as legitimate as '58.

That is a stupid statement; How dumb can you be? LSU won the outright NC on the field in 2003 and 2007 according to the rules of the NCAA. The NCAA BCS rules say absolutely nothing about having to be undefeated to win the NC.

I'm actually someone who sort of appreciates USC's position vis a vis 2003. I really wish we could have faced them then. Georgia in 2007, not so much.

I would have told you I agree with this had Auburn not have been screwed in '04. To me, the AP should be there as a back-stop when the system fails. It failed in both '03 and '04, and the latter was even more so.

Disagree, but just marginally so.

I'm not saying it's a choice between legitimate an ILLegitimate. Just that an undefeated NC team is marginally MORE legitimate than one with a loss or two.

Why should that point upset anyone? Are you happy LSU lost games in 2003 or 2007? Hell, they were all quite heartwrenching for me.

BaronD the D must stand for Dickhead. You're obviously just trying to stir sh*t and some people are responding to your stupid question. On the other hand... if you're serious you're an idiot.
