This year, I actually would prefer the Cotton over the Cap1

IMO, this particluar year, I would actually prefer the Cotton over the Capital One for the following reasons:
1. Better day (Saturday Jan. 2nd for the Cotton vs waking up early on New Year's Day for Cap1 bowl). Also, good kickoff time for Cotton at 1pm as opposed to their early-morning kickoff back in 2003 vs Texas.
2. Exponentially nicer stadium, and historic given the first Cotton Bowl in the Cowboys new stadium. Cap1 stadium is crap, FWIW.
3. More spotlight as the Cotton Bowl is the ONLY premier bowl game on Saturday Jan. 2nd. There are 4 other premier bowl games on Jan 1st, which is when the Cap1 is played.
4. "spicier" matchup (Nebraska/Pelini or Oklahoma St/Miles)
5. We recruit northeast Texas a lot heavier than we do the Orlando area, to say the least.
6. Bigger LSU alumni presence in Dallas as Dallas is the 3rd largest LSU alumni base outside of the state of Louisiana (Houston and Atlanta are the two others)
7. Dallas is very convenient to travel to, not to mention many LSU fans know a lot of people in the Dallas area which makes it fun.
8. Cotton Bowl will be the next BCS bowl game anyway, so it's turning into a huge game as we speak.
9. Only a $200,000 difference in payout to LSU between the Cotton and Capital One (see below)
-All that said, the Cap1 is a great bowl and I realize we still probably end up in Orlando vs Penn State, and I will gladly travel to see that game. But, given the two options and that Ole Miss was in the Cotton last season, I am holding out hope the SEC-Cotton-Cap1-Ole Miss-LSU broker a deal to send the Rebs to Orlando and the Tigers to Dallas. This particular season, I actually prefer the Cotton over Cap1.
Either way,
ETA: As per the $$$$$$$$, there is not much difference for LSU between Cotton and Capital One.
So, to sum up, the difference in money TO LSU for Cap1 as opposed to Cotton is only $200,000. Given an athletic department with revenues of $84 million, $200k is a basically nothing.
Regardless of whether you want Orlando or Dallas, vote for LSU on the Cotton Bowl's website... LINK

Playing against Paterno is a once in a lifetime thing.

raises hand
but for Jimmy's hubris, the Cotton is still a crappy location for a bowl.
Orlando is a better locale, has more exposure, and will be a better opponent for LSU.
LSU's recruiting in Texas is not going to be enhanced by an appearance in the Cotton.

Orlando will be warmer & I'd rather see us play Penn State than anyone from the Big 12.
Now, if it's Iowa, I'd prefer seeing us play Nebraska or OSU.
Even if he really isn't coaching, I'd like the opportunity to see one of the greatest coaches in college football history.

I agree with JEAUX. LSU has never played Penn State and Paterno. Higher profile coverage and matchup. I am looking forward to it.

I live in Dallas so trust me when I say LSU going to the Cotton Bowl sucks. The actual stadium is in Arlington which is in the middle of Dallas and Forth Worth. So you're basically in a dump of a town 20 miles from Dallas and 20 miles from Fort Worth.
Cap One all the way.
Cap One all the way.

Are you predicting the Cotton or the grim reaper?
We did that in the Orange Bowl in 1973 in both of our lifetimes!

$$$ doesn't matter. All the money (minus bowl travel expenses) goes to the SEC and is divided by 12.

More prestige and coverage playing Paterno. Plus living in new Jersey I am sick of Penn State. They used to own this state until Schiano kicked them out and has cut into Eastern Penn also

I would vomit if it is LSU-Iowa in the Cap 1....talk about a yawner of a matchup that has absolutely no spice to it.
Penn State-LSU would be awesome, but LSU-Iowa would not be very interesting to me.
